Works great as a wet stone on my axes and adzes. And my girlfriend reports it works on her feet, leaves them soft and smooth. So get one for your battle axe.

I grew up sharpening my knives on the bottom of cermac bowls and have been doing such for at least 60 yrs. Everyone thought it was the funnest thing. Mind you they brought their knives to me to sharpen, and when I went anywhere and new I would be cooking I took my own knives.As it turned out recently I needed to sharpen a hatchet and a double bit axe. I guess it could be down with a bowl but I decided to up grade to a file and stone.I used this on the axe and it did a fine job. But my knives!! I can slice jalapeños and onions so thin you could read a newpaper thru them.Excellent stone, I love the nylon case. If I had know I would have enjoy the stone this much I would have gotten the leather case!!!!

There are several round pocket stones available around the same price point and I figured the biggest difference is grit and storage options. Certainly the strength of the stone matters, and this one seems quite solid, will update later if it seems to chip under normal use, but doesn't seem likely. This stone offered slightly more aggressive grit on the course side and slightly finer on the medium side, but at 150/320 they still don't seem far enough apart for it to be a problem between the two. I assumed the leather case would be something pretty cheap, maybe even throwaway -- but I was quite happily surprised to find the leather pouch was a very soft, supple, suede leather pouch that seems like it will look very nice and will protect the stone well against a fair amount of abuse. The stone also came wrapped in a felt cloth that protects the stone from rubbing against the leather, which I think is a really nice touch.I was also a bit worried about using the round stone in general, but I found it pretty intuitive to get the hang of and had things sharpened in no time.

This came packaged nicely, looked very professional.The stone could be a bit larger, hard to hold with larger hands.I found it to be good for the final touch after using a file to get the edge I was looking for, the stone would take forever if you have a dull axe or trying to fix chips. Getting it wet, you will see the residue on the stone and the axe, It does remove the steel but not aggressively.I put a nice leather conditioner oil on my case, it looked very dry and after doing so, the case is much softer and has a very seasoned look to it. I guess if you were to attach it to your belt, you may get a stain from it but I only keep it in my hard case of files and tools for my axes and saws.

I used this sharpening my crkt machete could you imagine this is my first sharpening stone/ puck an man this thing is link sand it wears off so fast I had already got rid of like 1/3rd of the fine side in just sharpening a knife an a bit of my machete an it couldnt even get them sharp unfortunatly, I got a wisemen an thats a real stone not like trash.
