Ayahuasca: a Near-Death Transformation - with a detailed ceremony and integration guide

A path of the heart - the importance of getting rid of the ego
I did not know what to expect from this book as there are plenty of ayahuasca (or related plant medicine) books out there now—unlike 5-10 years ago. I decided to give it a try because (1) I'm going to Peru to do a ayahuasca retreat in November, (2) I liked (was intrigued by) the fact that the author mentioned in the book summary the path of the heart and the ego, which is something that is much too often overlooked in these spiritual practices. After all, what's the point of doing that if not destroying the ego? And (3) because of the ceremony guide included in the book. The account is well-written and very entertaining, which is something that I need, having concentration issues. I read the book cover-to-cover in just two days. The ayahuasca ceremony guide is very clear and answered many of my questions for the ceremonies to come. What strikes me most is the fact that the author doesn't try—unlike some other books dealing with ayahuasca or other psychedelics out there—to show off his spiritual side, but rather, asks out loud simple and honest questions that are very important to the spiritual seeker. He eventually finds answers, but not the way he expected to find them, and not the answers he expected to receive. I cannot imagine the struggle the author went through during the ceremonies, and I'm very glad to know the importance of surrendering BEFORE I attend mine...Overall, it is a very personal, beautiful, honest, and touching account of a spiritual seeking that deserves to be read by many following the same path.
