Apparently, there is at least one reviewer who thought that this item is supposed to receive US television stations. It doesn't because it was not designed for that purpose. If you're in the US, as I am, its value is as a low-cost software defined radio receiver (but not a transmitter). There are many RTLSDR applications that run under Microsoft Windows and various Linux distributions. I currently have this item attached to a Raspberry Pi 3, where it is adequately decoding various signals with just the antenna with which it came. Typing RTLSDR in a search engine will give you an idea of the digital modes that it is capable of processing.I noticed that one of the reviewers mentioned a 60 ppm error. The item I received had a 70 ppm error, so take the time to determine the error for your device and crank the correction into whatever applications you run. It can make the difference between receiving a decent signal and ending up with nothing but noise

Cheap, fun, and out of control.
The utility of a $200-$500 hardware scanner selling for less than a bag of peanuts. Cannot be used as TV adapter as designed for here in North America, but as software defined radio with hobbyist developed free software, this thing absolutely rocks. Wide range of frequencies up for grabs.(cannot remember the specific, for that go check out the specs, something like from 25MHZ to 1500MHz, so no cell or wifi signals at 2.4GHz or 5.6GHz, but definitely 1090MHZ for ADS-B to track aircrafts, APRS, police, CB (configure for AM ~27MHz), FRS around 462MHz. People talk about getting kids interested in STEM while Radio Shack is going out of business, their solution is to use public money to buy kids iPads, what they should be giving to kids is things like this so they can explore the world riding the electromagnetic waves. Okay, I know, real world runs on kickbacks. Fine.

Good weather and FM radio. period
I bought this because I love the idea of having a computer controlled receiver like the big boys. You may have trouble right off the bat with this product if you do not own a windows 7 (ugh) or 8 machine. My windows ten machine will run this thing. I do have to reinstall the driver if the machine has been turned off. Once I do that and run the program it works as good as it is going to. You will need to do some research to find software for this stick in the US. Remember the software with it will only work in DVB markets. That is not in US. I am wondering if the FM side will work in the US with the supplied driver. So you can pitch the disk and the remote. (Actually, i just stored it away.) I have been in to radio receivers most of my life. The big trouble in the US is that most utility (non commercial) radio has gone trunked and then completely digital. They say you can get software to make since of digital on this stick, but you better be a computer user on a high level to do that. With the stick and just the supplied antena i just managed to get local FM stations pretty well. The local FMs put out massive signal and the stick and the software i found had no trouble with that. After that, I barely got one weather stations. After A time, I hooked up a rabbit ear tv antena with a 3 dollar adapter and pulled in more local FM and several weather stations and may have pulled an aircraft transmission. The digital I heard up and down the spectrum was good, but i could not figure how to translate it. I also had no luck with standard AM. This is a great idea on paper. A computer controlled receiver for under 20 bucks. But i was underwhelmed by what one can hear on Analog radio with it in place. I should have known that. Try using a standard analog scanner today. Its a weather radio. Before you buy one of these you will need to do some research on stick freeware. Good down loads are available. The best i could tell that got me to really good fm, weather and maybe airport transmission. Good Luck and good dxing.

O where where did i go wrong better call INDIA . IF YOU ARE NOT A EXPERT PREPARE FOR FUSTRAION ( but you might be lucky) . I think perhaps it could be a good thing (SDR) but to say that i have to be connected to the internet to use a radio says it all . Be wacthing whats comming to are CARS, get that up date or your car is OFF.... GET READY TO PULL YOUR HAIR OUT UNLESS YOU ARE WAY SMART ,Wicth i am only 1/2 smart or, I might be a 1/2 wit When i bought i should have got a pair of socks instead .

good kit for the price
bought this for my rasberry pi, as a ads-b receiver so it will report back to flight sw like flight aware, or flight radar 24. Have not tried it as a tv reciever, but it does have a remote so i will give it a shot and see what it can recieve. I will give it a 5 for now, because for the price it's not a bad kit, you get everything as pictured and the remote had a battery. The antenna just pushes into the usb unit, and came with that driver disk. So overall, a 5 for now, will mark down if i can't get anything to work in this next weekend.

Small price to pay for losts of fun.
Throw the antenna and remote in the garbage. Other than that, with a good dipole antenna outside, you'll be amazed at what you can tune in. TV won't work on it here in the states but it's a veritable wealth of frequencies you can listen to from police, fire, air, fm radio etc, it's well worth the small price for the fun. There is also a multitude of freeware out there that these work with.
