Cabin 12 (Rock Point Book 2)

FBI Agent and The Paramedic
This is the second book in a series of connected books. The plot stands alone, but the characters share history and this contributes to the story. You will enjoy this book more if you have already read the first book in the series. There is no cliffhanger.***TRIGGER WARNING: There are references to sexual assault and mental health issues. Neither are dwelled on intensely but they have affects on characters in this story.***Bella Gomez is the sister of Damien, the MMC in the first book in this series. She is a paramedic and moved to Durango a year ago after she was forced to quit her old job. Her ex worked with her and spent a big chunk of their years together cheating on her with colleagues and sexually harassing those who weren’t willing partners. Suffering from depression her very large and meddling family didn’t really know how to help her. Eventually she moved to be near her brother, the family member who understood her the most. When Bella first met FBI SA Jasper Greene she saw a pretty and charming man, who didn’t take relationships seriously. She dismisses him out of hand and their interactions are quite abrasive. Jasper really likes Bella but steers clear of her because her brother is his boss and Bella seems to be really against the idea of getting together. Jasper was abandoned at age 3 and spent his childhood in the foster system. He loves his job and when he tried a relationship in the past it didn’t work out too well, so now it’s short term flings or nothing. When circumstances force them together, when Damien is on his honeymoon, they get to see each other more clearly and things become complicated. I really enjoyed the suspense aspect of this book. It was complex and interesting. It was less of a ‘whodunnit’ and more of ‘howtocatchhim’, all of which had Bella being pulled in because of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. This is a well written book, with likeable characters that draw you in to their world. The plot is intriguing and romance is emotionally satisfying. There is passion, laughter and tears in this book and once again Freya Barker writes a thoroughly enjoyable book.

Smart romantic suspense featuring an FBI agent and paramedic
Three and a half stars, but I'm on a bit of a book downer at the moment - this is the only one I haven't DNF'd this week.I am a great fan of Freya Barker's novels. First she writes about men and women over 40 which in itself is a rarity, then she writes characters with real issues and disabilities, not in a NA/YA angst-angst-angst kind of way but more in a 'everyone has problems' kind of way.Bella Gomez has suffered from depression for most of her life, the youngest in a large Mexican family she has always been babied by her older sisters and mother, even at 37 years old and a job as a paramedic they treat her like delicate crystal and constantly try to make decisions for her.If you have read the first book in the series you will know that Bella's brother is an FBI agent, he works with Jasper Greene, a computer nerd, a guy who just pushes all of Bella's buttons. When her brother goes off on his honeymoon he asks Jasper to keep an eye out for Bella, which is no problem because Jasper lurves to wind up the pampered little princess. But a sneaked kiss has got both of them rethinking their animosity. When a series of shootings indicates that there is a serial cop-killer on the loose Jasper revs up into uber-protective mode but Bella seems to be in the tick of the trouble. This was a thoughtful romantic suspense which also touched upon Bella's depression and the dual nature of family love/interference. I enjoyed it, but I didn't love it.

We almost set the place on fire!
Sparks, fireworks, explosions, Bella and Jasper are so combustible.....in passion..... anger......frustration! Fiery tempers to go with the red hot passion ensuring life with them will never be dull! This is the second book in the series, it's just as good as the first with dark secrets that people in power will do anything to keep buried, who can they trust? Can Jas and his team find the evidence they need or will they too become a threat that needs silencing? Every aspect of this series is well written the romance, crime, suspense, characters, you become so absorbed the pages turn themselves and the outside world disappears, I read this in one sitting - time ceased to exist, so it was 2am when I reached the final page and I was still tempted to begin book 3 there and then!

I've falling in love
Every time I think Freya Barker cannot get better, she does!!!Jasper and Bella's story will capture your imagination from the very first sentence.Bella is the youngest of her big, boisterous, loving family and when she first meets Jasper there is no love lost between them. Active dislike and avoidance is how they treat each other.fight she does, against her motherWhen Bella's brother, who is Jasper's boss is on his honeymoon Bella needs help and Jasper steps in and as the story grows so does the attraction between the two of them.Bella is forced to fight for Jasper and fight she does, against her mother and brother.Falling in love is sometimes not easy, but sometimes the fight is worth it.

Total tidal wave of a story!
I was captivated from the start. The storyline was a total tidal wave of emotion and intrigue. It just swept you up and each page turned itself. I could not stop reading this book. I loved book 1of this series but book 2 is a total triumph. I will continue reading this series. New to this author so really enjoying getting to know her writing style and characters. Give it a go!
