Beautiful, thoughtful, and grounded in practical advice
Grounded is a lovely book, written with care and clarity to help you forge your own connection with nature, starting from wherever you already are. It doesn't assume that you have access to national/provincial parks or lots of experience summiting mountains or long-distance biking. Instead, it encourages you to look at your life and find the openings to make a connection to nature—and to yourself—in small, practical ways that you can build on as you are able.Ms. Allen's writing is fluid, direct, and inspiring. The photos and design are gorgeous. As others have said, this book makes an excellent gift, for yourself or someone else.

Beautiful AND practical
This is such a beautifully written book, coupled with the most amazing photography. It offers helpful tips and exercises to help you with slowing down and grounding yourself. I love a book that allows you to “get involved” as you go, and one that gives the flexibility to read it how you’d like - cover to cover, or delving into what you need that day. I’ve been stuck indoors shielding for many months now; Ruth’s book has allowed me to imagine the outdoors and everything I’ll do in it again. The images allow me to escape my current 4-walled position and immerse myself in nature. My copy is already well thumbed, passages underlined and pages folded over. Getting quite battered, but much loved.

Pleasant to browse
A richly illustrated, and gentle introduction to the therapeutic benefits of connecting with the natural environment – 3 StarsMade for dipping in to, ‘Grounded’ is very easy on the eye and, with lots of white space included, this is a quick read too. It’s an ideal book to have on the coffee-table to provide a fast-fix dose of escapism; it’s pretty to look at, and contains plenty of mindfulness tenants to ease you through the day.Whether you choose to read this from cover-to-cover, or dip into a specific topic, or even just read a page or two at a time, ‘Grounded’ works well to explain the therapeutic benefits of the natural environment. What let it down a little for me, is that I found the photography selected (whilst very pretty to look at) always presented an idealised view of nature… everything was pristine, in artfully muted light, and altogether felt too ‘tidy’. It is perhaps a book written for those who prefer to enjoy nature from an armchair rather than going out and risk getting muddy and wet!Overall: An attractive and calming book. Lovely for dipping into, but the photography presents a very idealistic impression of the natural world.

Book of the year for me
I watched a video ‘Here’ featuring the author, and was so pleased to see that she had released a book. The author’s way of being and the book Grounded, really resonated with me, and Grounded came along at a point when my spirits needed lifting. I love to be out in nature and I also love the grounding of solitude - Grounded reminded me of the importance of these things. It is definitely a ‘companion book’ - one of those books you treasure and return to time and time again. For this reason, I would recommend getting the hardback, which has been beautifully produced. It will live alongside my Jon Kabat-Zinn and Thich Nhat Hanh books. A companion with my other companions.

Rich source of practical strategies to support wellbeing through a greater connection with nature
This book was recommended to me by a friend as a source of inspiration for practical activities to help the body find improved wellbeing through activities in nature. Ruth's style of writing brings this all to life with simplicity, clarity, inner wisdom, and a light touch of theory. The images in the book set the scene so beautifully as well. It is more than a self-help book - it is a feast of opportunity for being in nature. A book I now have many post-it notes in and can use to support my personal well-being and workshops with others.
