Anyone who knows Barbirolli's classic and unsurpassed 1962 recording of the Vaughan Williams Tallis Fantasia (by far the best transfer of that is the most recent, the one with an additional Delius coupling) should hear this. It ranks alonside it, in spite of the mono sound. Indeed, the sound is simply astonishing for its vintage and the performance takes flight. The other recordings are very fine, too. The sound as excellent as one has come to expect from Dutton.
