DO NOT BUY.
As a hindu and a devotee of Ram.. I would absolute not let my children read this version.Soooo many many tiny mistakes in the story. I would have to keep telling the kids ..this book says it like this, but thats not how it was! And i would have to keep explaining the other version of it, like what they have been hearing since they were little. This book completely botches up the essence and the emotion and feeling of the entire story. Referring to hanuman as the monkey king or as a little white monkey. (He wasn't a king, but we wasn't little either) and the illustrations too ..King Dashrath sending away Ram, feels like a cruel king.. doesn't portray how heartbroken he was and the love he had for his son (he dies a few days later of a broken heart coz he had to send him away). All these aspects are very important to young minds. That the father loved his son but he had to honor a promise he had made a long long time ago. I know Ramayan is a very complex story to say the least. But simplifying it to this extent isn't the way to go. Even in the last page illustration, looks more like father and son are praying Namaz rather than doing a puja!

Okayish
I feel that the story is manipulated a little bit and it is missing the crucial facts. But all in all it's okay.

Colorful illustrations but may scare some kids!
This book has a good story, is well written and has colorful and unique illustrations. However, my 5 year old found some of the scenes and story to be scary as this story is written more true to the original. Also, some of the themes are not always appropriate for younger, impressionable, audiences as the story goes into the detail about how helpless Sita is, and that she requires a man to marry to be happy. Easily skippable when reading but also not the right message for my child!

Great book to share with children for Diwali
As a teacher I needed a book to tell the story of Diwali which lead into them making their own Diva lamps. This book is lovely and colourful to keep the children engaged. A great resource for this topic.
