They may work a little too well!
So I used these to prevent dust from getting into outlets. Cheap enough, easy solution. They work great...HOWEVER, and this is a big one, they may work TOO well.I got these stuck in a few different outlets one being my APC UPS battery backup. I had to use a screwdriver (yes I unplugged it and didn't touch the contacts!) to pry it out. My advice is to just remove the ground plug portion (wire cutters or pliers twisting the post back and forth will do it). There is no loss of safety because it will still stay in the socket very well with just two prongs inserted. This is just a word of caution from experience, as it is much easier to remove without the ground prong and there will be no fear of it getting stuck in a receptacle.

Won't stop the smell of a mouse nest, but it will protect your children and pets
I live in a crappy rental house with a clueless landlord. A mouse died in the wall because he put poison bait stations outside without ensuring the mice can't get in the house after they eat the poison! Months later it still smells like a dead body. I used these outlet covers to keep the smell in the walls. Did not work. Then I noticed a foul feces/urine smell, a sure sign of a nest, in an outlet next to my stove. These didn't stop the smell despite the fit being tight and secure. I don't have kids but I feel more relaxed that my cat won't accidentally electrocute himself with the outlet by his scratching post. I haven't tried to remove them so I can't comment on that, but my lease is up in a few months so I shall find out soon. I'm counting the days! Don't move to Portland, OR. High rent, substandard living conditions, amateur landlords with no knowledge of the law, and tenant lawyers who will tell you it's illegal but difficult to prove, so no worth their time. Portland sucks! But these outlet covers are pretty good.

Best outlet covers for brittle nails! I love them!
These are the best baby outlet covers I've used. They have a bottom part that you have to slide down, then pull out. Sliding it down is quite difficult - I can barely do it, so I doubt a baby/toddler would be able to (although some of those little buggers can do things adults can't, for sure!) What I really like about these, over the other ones I've used, is that you can leave the bottom part open (down), thus making it easier for ME to open while still covering the outlet. So it takes away the curiosity of the child to stick their fingers in the outlet, but I can remove it without breaking my (sadly brittle and/or nonexistent) nails. This gives me the very convenient option of making the outlets I never use completely impossible to access, while leaving the ones I often use covered but possible to open. For this reason, these are now my absolute favorite outlet covers ever. The quality is good and they seem durable as well. They also arrived more quickly than I had expected, which was nice.

My ten months old figure it out
These covers are sturdy and easy to install. I have it 3 stars, though, because my 10 months old son was able to figure out how to remove them. He has not quite gotten it out of the outlet, yet, but it's only a matter of time. They are nice for a quick, temporary outlet cover, but not for use where your baby has time to fiddle with it. I'm going to get the self closing covers that you screw in for the rooms he plays in most often.

VERY hard to remove
The photo shows 3 plug protectors. Lower left is a type I installed for the older g-kids many years ago- very hard to remove. I got these plugs since they have the fold-out tab for removal. However I was very disappointed when I installed them. Upper right is the plug- notice how long the ground (round) pole is- this thing is extremely difficult to both install and remove. I solved the problem with my Dremel tool (as shown)- notice the altered plug lower right, where I cut off most of the round pole. Works nicely now, so if you have a Dremel and are willing to do a bit of altering, I recommend them, otherwise not.
