I don't often write a reveiw about an item because they usually work as described and I expect that. This item does work better than I expected so it deserves a bit more applause than normal. When looking for a replacement for my 2' x 4', 1970's style, skylight I came across this unit. In at least 1 review, it was mentioned that it would never pay for itself in saved electricity. I cannot agree more but the light is very bright and works well even on cloudy days. The best part however is that it was so easy to install. The hole through the roof was only required to be about 1/2". I then just fished the power cord down to the hole I put in my ceiling, attached it to the ligh and voila! -instant light!I bought a 2nd unit and will probably buy at least 3 more as they work so well and compared to the old unit, it is much cooler near the ceiling area.My only suggestion to the manufacturer would be to use a smaller connector so that a much smaller hole could be drilled into the roof....smaller hole, smaller area to leak!I am not saying go out and buy 2 or 3 but I am very satisfied with mine!Dan

Easy to install and works well, only one problem with on remote control unit Amazon took care of it quickly.

I bought two skylights, for the kitchen and the hallway because there is no window. The skylines keep the area bright during day time. The great idea is that they use solar energy. I especially like the one in my kitchen because I do not need to turn on the light when I cook during the day time. I do not need to worry about my family members forget to turn the light off, which they always do. I really appreciate the after sale support. They answered my questions in details and with attachments. They even followed up if my issues had been resolved. Although I do not know how to calculate if the money I spent worth from the energy savings. I know the two skylights I bought make my house brighter and worry free from turning off the lights.

OK so what is this? its a solar/DC hybrid LED light source. think of this as a light on a UPS but its "flipped" in reverse and the UPS is the sun/solar panel.SO with a UPS you run your stuff off AC power and if the power goes out the UPS switches to "battery power" until the AC power comes back on (or you shut your equipment down)This works a lot like that. but instead of running off AC power it runs off SOLAR POWER first. and only when there is not enough solar power does it switch to AC power until the sun comes out again.Pretty neat idea. so why will it never save you a penny? well it has to do with ROI or return on investment. IE it saves you money BUT you have to buy it first. so it has to save its "purchase price" in savings first before it can save you anything. well this thing is 3 benjamins. ..... and the MAX it can save you is $73 over its entire lifetime. assuming the LED will last 20,000 hours (it won't) and assuming your electricity is expensive like mine is 18.3c/kwh the max it can take you is $73.12only 25% of its purchase price. IE it can't save you money. NOW that does not mean its a bad product. for example if you are running off grid it might be worth it to save you generator/battery bank/gas power during the day time hours. it also means in a power out situation at least during the day this light will keep working. so not useless.What is really interesting is the little widget that "does the magic" sell that for $10 a pop and man you would sell a lot of them !!Quality is excellent materials and workmanship is excellent. light quality is excellent. its a good product. its just way way way way over priced sadly.An idea to make it more viable? add a LIFEPO4 battery sufficient to run it for 5 hours (probably enough for most evening usage after the sun goes down) 6 hours would be better.beef up the solar panel a tiny bit so it can run the light AND recharge the battery in 6 hours.DOUBLE the LED's but keep the power the same. ie connect 2 of those LED arrays to this but cut the power in half. so same power but more LED's this will increase lumen per watt efficiency AND triple the lifespan of the LED's in most cases. ie should get 60,000 hours out of them if you do it right.using LIFEPO4 means 10 year lifespan and a positive ROI. sell it for $200. use standard cell sizes so they can be sourced when they need replacing.Off grid people would love that !!

If you are ready to try solar power in your home, but aren't sure how to start, this is a good entry point. It's a ceiling light powered by a small solar panel. It has AC/DC backup for emergencies.
