Arctic Tale

Movie, Audio, and Video Review
MOVIE: I love this movie. The movie is billed as a documentary that also tells a story, hence Arctic "TALE." Note that the events are documented and then construed together to create the tale. It's my understanding the principal photography was filmed over multiple years. The soundtrack to this movie is excellent: Aimee Mann, Sister Sledge, and others provide a great musical compliment.AUDIO: I have this movie on VUDU with the 1080p HDX video and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. I bought the BluRay to have access to increased bit rates for video as well as the lossless DTS-HD. I had read a review on High-Def Digest that they couldn't detect a serious uptick in audio quality, but I ordered anyway as the BluRay was less than $10. After watching the BluRay, I can attest that not only is the lossless audio not really any better, some of the opening scenes actually sounded quieter than the Dolby Digital 5.1 on VUDU streaming. For the record, I have an Onkyo 9.1.2 receiver capable of Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, etc, so I know the equipment is not the issue.VIDEO: The video quality is almost the same between the BluRay and VUDU streaming. Keep in mind that the film took years to complete, so there are different stocks of film, some scenes have a lot of grain whereas others do not. There is an uptick in video quality on the BluRay, but not by much.If you have an option to buy this movie on Amazon Prime, VUDU, or Apple/iTunes for same or less than the BluRay, just order it there and stream it.

Kind of surprised it’s rated G
I got this video for my 4th graders to watch since we were discussing sustainability and pollution that week. Doing all my research to make sure it was appropriate for them, there were still some scenes that were graphic. At one point, the polar bear catches a seal, which then the camera shows the polar bear eating it, blood and all. With that being said, there were some other scenes that were sad for my students. Overall, it was a good movie and educational, but also shocked it is rated G with some sad scenes and one somewhat graphic scene, for kids.

We bought it with the companion DVD for a 5 yr old child. The parents say that the pictures are beautiful and both the book and DVD might be of interest to their child at a later child, but as of now the DVD is more of a documentary.

Cute show.
This is a rather interesting show for adults. It may be more entertaining for children. Nice photography.

polar bears
My 3 1/2 year old grand son loves polar bears - and this movie was a hit. Interesting/informative (a picture says so much more!) for me too to see the environmental impact of global warming.

My daughter enjoys the movie
Got this for my 2-year-old daughter. She's now 3.5 and still enjoys watching it -- she enjoys the polar bear cubs, and the walruses farting.I personally find the story somewhat sad, but that's how nature works -- animals starving, their habitat being eliminated...What amazes me is the folks who claim global warming is propoganda, yet still cling to a cult about some mythical being they call "Him" (with a capital 'H'), that has far, FAR less scientific basis.I would have given this a 4-star rating for it's entertainment value (from my daughter's perspective), but to combat the idiots who give it 1-star because they are so dense to realize that global warming isn't always "warming", but rather a change of weather patterns, am trying to balance things out.BTW - If you get this, I'd recommend just regular DVD -- we have it on HD-DVD and the quality looks like it's sub-par DVD (better than VHS, but not even DVD quality). Of course, if you can pick it up cheaply enough (and have an HD-DVD player), why not...

Great
A fantastic film. Funny and entertaining - Nanu's little brother was a little treasure - but very moving too, especially the death of Nanu's brother. The walruses are hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This film really opens your eyes about these creatures, especially the walrus. These creatures are more family orientated then some humans are today! What I will never understand though is how people film these films and just watch an animal die. I know you are not supposed to interfere with nature but one of the purposes of this film is to highlight the plight of animals like these and to follow and film a cub dying of starvation is to me inhumane, especially when at the end of the day it is going to earn the film makers BIG money. Also the bit at the end with the USA children, about how we could all do our bit about global warming and the environment etc is a bit hypocritical seeing as the US is one of the bigggest polluters!Fantastic shots and arctic scenery though.

Educational yet entertaining for children
Having read the negative reviews I was prepared to be disappointed but ordered anyway as it was for my grandson, not me. I'm so glad I did. I have lost count of the number of times we have watched this - he absolutely loves it and I am happy to watch it with him. Yes, there are the 'cute and cuddly' shots but there are also the 'do or die' shots and we discuss the need for polar bears to eat seals, and for arctic foxes to eat birds. Personally I could do without the children at the end telling me how to save the world, but my grandson listens to it all and if it helps him shape his future I'm happy.

Beautiful, moving
Beautiful, moving, stunning. Everyone should watch this movie, as it is an eye opener to the effect that climate change has had on the natural world. We fell in love with Seela and Nanu. We both laughed and cried a lot throughout this movie. National Geographic did an amazing job. Great product with quick delivery from the third party seller.

artic tale
my grandchildren and myself enjoyed this film, it is very enjoyable and suitable for any age.I love the tenderness of the polar bears and the walruses it brings it home to us how the animals care for their young .I think there would be less problems in the world if we lived as the animals do.
