IT REALLY WORKS!!
I was skeptical of an electric turkey because for years Iโve used the conventional propane turkey fryer. A coworker brought in a turkey he had fried in this butterball fryer, I was blown away by the flavor and juiciness. When I got mine I was surprised of how much easier and safer it was to use than the traditional pot turkey fryer. Iโve had it since 2017 and wanted to buy one for my brother. We love it and fry everything in it fish and chicken ๐๐๐

October 2016I've used rotisserie to cook my turkeys for over 10 years with awesome results. The drawback to using that method is securing the limbs, putting it on the spit and cleanup was an unfriendly chore. So, for the holidays this year I decided to try deep fried turkey but did not want to stay outside babysitting when I needed to be inside cooking the rest of the meal. Did some research and found this improved model and pulled the trigger and ordered it with a little bit of skepticism. I've seen some reviews saying the skin was not crispy or food was sticking together or even cook times were longer then recommended. My response to all of that is they did not follow instructions. I fried a 15lb turkey in less than an hour that was room temperature, injected and rubbed with a little dry seasoning. The fryer took 35 minutes to heat up and I followed the instructions and the results were near perfect. So, from fridge to table took about 2 to 2 1/2 hours compared to 4 - 5 hours with the rotisserie. The skin was crispy and all of the meat was flavorful and juicy. The fryer did not make a mess on the counter other than a little water vapor and clean up was easy by disassembling the unit and washing the parts separately. This was a practice run and I will report any changes throughout the holidays.December 2016I'm 4 turkeys in and everything is pretty consistent. The last turkey I fried was 18lbs and was a little over an hour to complete. I've noticed that you have to be careful with the dry rub if using it in addition to the injection, it may come out on the salty side. There was a little oil splatter while lowering the turkey this time but nothing major. I was in a different location so cleanup was a little more challenging because the kitchen sink was smaller. Summing it up I'm still happy with the results and as I said in the initial review... follow the instructions!December 2019Not enough leftover turkey to make sandwiches.... so I just threw a 12lbs in the fryer without the fancy prep-work. I didn't even tie the legs and it turned out well.

My wife says "It's the best fried chicken I've ever eaten!"
My wife wasn't thrilled when I announced to her about purchasing this Butterball XL Electric Fryer. She stated that she doesn't like the mess that she knows she would have to clean up after using it. She told me that I can be the one to use it and clean the mess afterwards. Unfortunately none of the stores sold turkeys since they were out of season. We decided to try out the fryer using large chicken quarters. I suggest that you fill the fryer with oil (in our case peanut oil) to the fill line and turn it on so it can heat up for 45 minutes BEFORE prepping the chicken (or turkey). Like several have mentioned, the cord isn't very long and you need to have the fryer set up near the electrical outlet. We cut up the chicken quarters and coated them with flour, salt, and pepper. I sprayed the basket with Pam so the chicken wouldn't stick. I placed the first layer in the bottom of the basket, making sure that the pieces didn't touch each other. After lowering the basket, I added the remaining pieces of chicken one at a time. I read where the recommended time was 14-18 minutes, so I set the timer for 18 minutes. After the timer went off, I pulled one of the thigh pieces and checked the temperature with the meat thermometer and found that it went above the recommended 180 degree temperature. I pulled up the basket and attached it to the inside front of the fryer so the chicken could drain for 30 minutes. The crust was very crunchy. My wife tasted it and said that it was the best chicken she's ever eaten. As for the clean-up, I used the containers that the oil came in and used coffee filters to filter the oil which was drained through the provided spigot that is screwed onto the drain pipe. It took a long time to filter so we used paper towels as filters for the last 1 1/2 gallons. It was very easy to clean and my wife was quite pleased with it. She's already talking about using it again soon.
