The only lightening adaptor that works with audio out, wireless mic systems and mixers
If you want to get sound sent into an iPhone for recording on video or audio or any livestream this can be VERY challenging and NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to do. You need a special adaptor to convert the lightening port of an iPhone into a 3.5 mm plug to connect. All the lightening adaptors on the market are like the one Apple sells. All these lightening adaptors are good at plugging headphones to listen to music from your iPhone. But most all of them DO NOT work in getting sound from a microphone or any audio source into a iPhone.I ordered about 6 different brands of adaptors and they all pretty much failed to work. Even the Apple one failed. In one case I was able to get them to work for only a passive non-powered microphone but only after purchasing yet another adaptor to plug into the lightening adaptor. But when I plugged in a wireless lavalier microphone receiver into this same setup ... nothing ... my iPhone continued to use the internal microphone and ignored the sound coming from my wireless lavelier setup. After many days of research and frustration I was referred to get this cable from Saramonic which was described as the "holy grail" of audio adaptor cables. And it literally is. I don't know for sure how or why this simple looking adaptor cable works but it does. Plug the output from a mixer into this cable and your iPhone video recordings will actually get the sound from an external source. I was able to feed multiple sound sources into an audio mixer and then feed the mixer output into my iPhone that was hosting a zoom meeting. The zoom meeting was successfully able to hear all the voices and music that was coming out of the mixer! This Saramonic cable actually works! The saramonic cable has a male 3.5mm connector so for some situations you'll need a female to female 3.5 mm stereo audio adaptor. Using one of these common female to female adaptors I was able to plug a professional wireless lavalier receiver into this adaptor and FINALLY the wireless microphone sound was heard by the iPhone!

Works
Works with a TRRS microphone. It does have a slight hum/whine (very low level only detectable in silence) that it imparts into the audio stream with an iPhone 14 and Rode video micro. Easily removed with post processing/editing.

It works, but only in mono.
Despite what this looks like based on its 3.5mm TRS input jack this adaptor does not connect stereo audio to "i" devices. In my testing with a Movo wireless lavalier receiver it sums the channels to mono as soon as you plug it in. This was determined by listening through headphones and hearing everything collapse to a single channel as soon as I plugged in this cable. From a sound quality standpoint, it is actually quite good, but I was counting upon getting two discrete channels.
