Mary Low writes a brilliant overview on the life of St. Cuthbert, pulling together disparate facts from ancient sources. She also provides loads of local historical and current information about the things you'll see if you walk St. Cuthbert's Way. I found it helpful before, during, and after our walk. I particularly like that this book is intended for pilgrims, those who are looking for the spiritual experience of the way.

I went on the pilgrimage on my own, without baggage transfer, so this guide was very useful, gave details of each location, sights to visit, things not to miss, as well as fascinating insight into the history of Northumberland, as well as Celtic Christianity. Highly recommend!
