great book on this little know unit
The Forgotten Squadron, great book on this little know unit, book has a lot of pictures and colored drawing that makes it worth the read. Book covers the activation and training to the units deactivation at the end of WW2. One very interesting portion of the book is the coverage of the war with the start of the Japanese campaign in china is covered from the beginning and the need for aircraft in this theater is mentioned as well. Reader gets the fell for each Japanese campaign to take out American air fields in this theater of operation.Great read

Great history
Having had a cousin who flew in the 76th fighter squadron at the same time as the 449th, this book is of great interest to me. Major Jackson has done an exceptional job of research and writing about a little known arena of WW 2

Excellent book...
...about a "forgotten" subject. The very good quality of most of the the pics is noteworthy. Some color artwork would have been welcome...too bad !

The Forgotten Squadron, Inspiring and great.
When we heard that a book had been written concerning the squadron that our Uncle, Don Forsythe, had been in we had to get it. It was inspiring to know about this time in his life (he created the logo for the squadron) but the story of this group of men fighting so far from home was much more than we expected. There were so many like these that were not given the honor that they deserved so this book is a great testiment to their courage and valor.

This was recommended by the P-38 Fighter Association Facebook page. I bought the book for my Father who was a fan of the P-38 Lightning - which compelled me to learn about Richard Ira Bong the top US Ace of World War II. The aircraft is notable for being an early design by Clarence Kelly of Lockheed. The design was made on a Cocktail Napkin
