best of the 4-5 purifers I've owned
First, it comes really well packed- I was very impressed at the care the seller took when packaging this item. I have several purifiers (one in each room) but these folks make absolutely sure the item comes intact. I'll give it an A in this respect.Second, it's a sleek looking purifier; square at the bottom, cylindrical at the top -- about two feet high and 6-8 inches wide. It's dark gray and I'm very happy with the appearance. Grade: ANoise: on Auto & Fan 1 -- barely audible at all; I keep it in fan speed 2, and can barely hear it. Fan speed 3 is a acceptable, 4 and 5 -- which I'll rarely ever need -- are noticeably loud. But if you ever do need speeds 3, 4, and 5, you can rest assured that this purifier will clean your air well, and it does it fast.Energy-efficiency: it's energy star certified, so I am confident I can run it 24/7/365 for next to nothing.Laser sensor: I believe it, but I have another purifier with a PM 2.5 sensor and sometimes that purifier registers red whereas this one continues to indicate that air quality is very good (under 5). I know for a fact that the other purifier I have is 100% accurate. I believe this one is too (I think) but can't be sure. It's definitely a cool feature and more typical of purifiers at or above $300. Grade: B+Cleaning capacity: when I walk in to my place, the air is never stale. I've only had this 2 days but the air feels clean and crisp and I know this device is definitely cleaning the air. Grade: A.It's AHAM certified at 455 square feet and has a CADR of 290. Which more or less means that it will clean the air twice an hour in a room that's 900 square feet (assuming ceilings are 10 feet or thereabouts) at top speed (which I'll rarely ever use) My living room is about 300 square feet so my calculation is that it replaces the air 3-4 times an hour on speed 2 (barely audible). It's super efficient and has the cleaning capacity of $300+ purifiers by other well known brands. By this costs $233 (plus tax), so I'm thrilled.Cost of filter replacement: I believe it's $69, every 6-8 months. On par with other large room purifiers. I wish it was $20 less, but what can you do.I like that it's quiet (less than 25 decibels on fan speed 1 and sleep), cost-effective in that it's energy star certified, I like the laser sensor which gives me real time numbers on air quality and I like the ability with which this device cleans air. And it looks sharp.I've had 4-5 purifiers in my life, have one in every room, and this is by far my favorite. And I've only had it a couple of days but definitely think it's a keeper.I'll provide updates as necessary if I think they'll be helpful.

So far...so good
Nice design...reasonable sound level. Once you get to level 3, things can get noisy. It's particle detection is quite sensitive. We cooked in the kitchen which triggered the unit. While we could smell some level of smoke, we couldn't see anything. The unit caught it and ramped up.It has handles for moving it around, and the filter replacement is ok to perform. The cap on the bottom twists off and on to replace the filter and locks in place at 4 points. Can be a little finicky...but not bad.Noise level is average, as mentioned. I was hoping all of those odd circles on top were there to diffuse the noise, and perhaps they are, but the noise falls in line with that of Honeywell, blue air, and levoit units of similar size. The packaging is exemplary. Double boxed from the factory with foam and cylindrical bubble wrap inside. UPS did their best to destroy this one, but once powered up, it operated flawlessly. No whining sounds, just rushing air.Overall, I like the unit, but look forward to someone finally defying physics and making these effective but quiet even on higher speeds. Oh, app control would have been nice. Definitely needs an upgrade there.

Incredible value and excellent performance
This outperforms my Bissell Air 320. It clears the room of cooking smells so much faster and when it is at fan speed 1 it’s absolutely silent. I’m sensitive to background noises so believe me when I say silent

Too loud false advertisement of 46db but still decent
I ended up returning this unit not because it's terrible but I think some of the ratings are exaggerated. It works but the air quality meter is pretty much useless 99% of the time it says the air is good and doesn't ramp up fan speed so expect to use this at a manual speed otherwise you may as well just save money and buy a smaller unit. The max noise rating of 46 db is impossible. I tried out a few comparable air purifiers and this was the loud st one yet had the "lowest" rated max db. It's not that the fan motor is noisey it's the rush of air moving out of the unit why I think it's so loud. It's because it's small cylinder shape makes it so the rome of the fan have to be greater to move the same volume of air compared to other brands so in return ends up being pretty loud on speed 4 and 5 it's actually kind of ridiculous but it has decent air movement. It makes me question the other ratings on the device and returned it and am now using a blueair 211+ which is aham rated for almost 100 more sq ft and around 50 more cadr. The blueair 211+ is a lot quieter and pleasing on the eyes in my opinion. I did like the unit but again the noise was too much but noise is subjective so give it a try!

Amazing results for allergy sufferers
I first ordered this during the really bad onset of Oregon wildfires. Although delivery was delayed due to fires, it arrived in enough time to set it up and start clearing the indoor air. We had not been able to open up our windows or doors for almost two weeks and we have four cats to boot! So all of our sinuses were inflamed and the headaches were merciless.Within a couple of days I began to notice the difference. At first I wasn’t sure this thing was really doing it’s job, as we had it set to auto and even with smoke and cat dander the fan never went higher than level 5. But I started to notice the air was feeling cleaner and the feline smells were not as noticeable. And, headaches and bloodshot eyes and coughing as well.My husband questioned whether air purifiers actually work, but now he’s a firm believer. He’s a big amateur coffee roaster—and coffee bean fumes are really bad for anyone familiar with the process. While still set to auto, and in our bedroom away from the kitchen, the unit would automatically kick on high while it cleared the coffee bean roasting fumes. That’s when we realized this thing actually works and could document it!As a migraine and allergy family, we have become firm believers in the Airthereal AGH550! Worth every penny.
