Well written starting point.
Great book to show you how to get started. Good pictures and explanations. I will be referencing it quite a bit in the coming months. You still will want to get a shop manual for the exacts, but this is a good starting point.

Restore my old Chevy P/U ......really!
A great guide for anyone wishing to restore an old Chevy truck, but fantastic for a newbie to the task! This book will help you decide the path you really want to take.. True restoration or a rebuild so you can use and enjoy your old truck. If you buy one book first, this is the one!

Good book to get you inspired
I bought this book as a gift for my husband to match his purchase of a 1953 1 ton Chevy pickup. Moose as we have named him is in totally original condition (including the paint). My husband has rodded vehicles several times over the years, but we want to keep as much of Moose original as feasible. This book has already been read cover to cover (twice) and several pages have been dog earred. It is especially complete on the era which includes 1953, and that of course is what we are working with. I would have to say later years may be disappointed, but it is still quite good at offering more than one option for "how-to" restore the major components. This is not really a book for hot rodders, but if you want to learn the history or restore this is a good purchase. I'd love to see a more recent edition.

Excellent novice level book
This is an excellent book for anyone new to restorations. Easy to read, easy to follow with some great recommendations. If you have a couple restorations completed this may be too basic for you, but as a newby I found it quite helpful. The local library had the Ford version, but not the Chevy. I'm glad I purchased it and will refer to it throughout my current restoration project.

Helpful book. Lost the earlier version. Of course I found it as soon as this one arrived. Just enough updates to make it worth it. Jim

Not What I Was Expecting
I was expecting more detailed instructions on dis-assembly/re-assembly, kind of like a Chilton or Haynes Manual, but that is not the case. It's good for instructing one on what to look for on a donor/project car that you are thinking of buying, but does not provide much on how things go together or what current parts can be used on these older trucks. For example, I'm replacing the steering column in a 1958 Chevy Apache with one from a 60's truck. This book doesn't provide those details or options that can be used, not even any guidance on possible fabrication of parts. I would not recommend this book to anyone who already has a project car purchased and started. I might recommend it to a first-timer who is looking for a project so they can read on what they are about to get into and how to go about picking a vehicle. And for some background on myself, the 1958 Apache is my 1st restoration project. I am by no means an automotive expert. I have an network engineering degree, so the aptitude to research and solve problems is there and I like to work with my hands and perform almost all my maintenance and repairs on my daily driver. In high school, I rebuilt a 350 Chevy engine and worked on my 76 Pontiac Ventura.I hope this helps anyone looking at buying this book.
