Cut east, work like they should

I decided to buy this instead of the twist apart spacers because I thought it would be easier to just measure the length I needed and cut. I was right. Instead of stacking, adding, and removing until I got the right length as I would have to do with the twist apart square ones. They are semi soft so they are easy to cut. I used a cheap plastic caliper to measure the depth from the face of the outlet box to the new surface or plane of the wall and guesstimated an additional 1/8th inch. Somewhere I read one had to add an 1/8" for the face plate which doesn't really make sense because the receptacle protrudes by design. BUT, I added the 1/8" and found that it was better because when you tighten the screws the softness of the spacer becomes harder and stiffens the installation making it solid. My install was over tile and I measured both the top spacer and bottom spacer separately as the tile was slightly uneven. This would have been more difficult with the twist apart spacers. Cutting the spacers with scissors at first gave an irregular cut so I rotated the spacer in the scissor blades as I cut and found it produced a flatter cut. I was using the blue plastic outlet boxes and the screws that came with the spacers fit well. The original screws were too short to reuse. One spacer did two boxes, so the idea is to use and cut as needed.

It's super easy to adjust spacing for outlets and outlet covers when you're tiling. Cut the red rubber stuff a little bit long then compress it using the screws and you'll have a tight fit. Easy!

I purchased these to use as spacers but not for electrical outlets. The spacers and screws were double bagged/wrapped and arrived intact. I'll be buying more soon.
