A Good Resource for the CCEP Examination
OK, this book is obscenely expensive. It is. It is overpriced and not very big (excluding the appendices and epilogue, it's 92 pages. The first twelve pages are pretty much fluff, so more like 80). I dropped a star for that reason. And yes, it's also sort of annoying and ironic that, in a book about ethics, the authors both sit on the board of the SCCE/HCCA. That board is responsible for administering the compliance certification testing, and also, coincidentally, recommends this book as essential test prep material. This seems very much like self-dealing and a conflict of interest, although perhaps the authors receive no compensation from the sale of the book. Either way, the optics are troubling. When you get past these issues, the book itself is pretty decent, at least as a resource for the exam. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I didn't find it to have an inordinate amount of white space, and the sample documents in the Appendix could be useful. One of the main issues that I have with compliance from a legal perspective (as opposed to a compliance for compliance's sake perspective), is that no enforcement body seems to want to stake out a position on what a compliance program should actually look like. There's a lot of really vague and standardless goals that no one really knows what they mean.Nevertheless, the authors go through the effort to actually put some meat on the compliance bones and give some actual, practical advice on procedurally building the program. That is appreciated, but there isn't enough detail in here for someone who is trying to figure all this out for the first time. This book with need to be supplemented with other, much more thorough (and sometimes free) resources out there; Transparency International's Adequate Procedures, though written for the UK Bribery Act, is excellent.I would recommend the book for someone taking the examination, because it is structured to tick the same boxes as you would need for the exam. It might also be useful for someone just starting out in compliance, but it would be hard to justify the price tag for someone who wasn't buying it for the exam. If you are a person who has spent some time in compliance, it's probably best to save your money.

This book was full of fluff, white space, ...
This book was full of fluff, white space, and buzzwords, but had very little actual content. I made the mistake of highlighting it before checking the rest of the content, or else I would send it back. This books was not worth 60 dollars, and I am regretful that I spent my Christmas money on it.
