Q: How loud is it? Can I use it in an office? would it work well with a stand up desk, or do you move up and down too much?

It is very quiet. If you hear a slight noise just spray some wd-40 where the connection bolts are on the side (NOT the cylinders). I think that it would work for a standing desk, if you have good balance. But you can easily stand with both pedals at the same level without going up and down. It is fantastic. I go to the gym Monday to Friday but with this I can exercise at home. My tone had improved dramatically.

Q: I'm naive- is this more like climbing stairs or walking/running? I'm too old to want a stair climber but I'll walk like a fiend- can I with this?

This is like climbing stairs but there is even less impact than walking if used as designed

The Anaerobic Trainer is extensively used in bariatric medicine. (Bariatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity.) It is a practical safe way for the morbidly obese and elderly to sprint.

Q: I'm looking at this thing and it looks like the foot area is really small? can people fit their whole foot on it with no overhang?

I wear a size 14 shoe and have no problem fitting my feet onto the pedals as needed. The pedals are actually 4" wide x 10" long. This is more than enough to provide the footing required to use the Xiser properly. As your balance improves, you actually want to place your feet back a little further on the pedals, so your heels are slightly off the back of the pedal, to simulate actual foot positioning when climbing an incline. It is an awesome machine that is rock-solid in its build and craftsmanship. Use it properly and you can get an incredible workout in a relatively short period of time (i.e., VIT/HIIT training) - and the calories will burn for hours! :-)
