A great little trimmer
This is a perfect lightweight yet powerful trimmer. The two stroke engine starts easily, and is plenty powerful enough even for tough grass and weeds. This engine is much lighter in weight than a comparable power four stroke engine. I have used the trimmer a number of times this summer and it cuts even long wire grass and crab grass quite easily. One other reviewer criticized the trimmer for having what they considered an inadequate amount of plastic line on the spool. I disagree with that summary as the line is thick (0.095") and strong. I find that the line hardly wears even when I am cutting heavy vegetation and think that even with quite a lot of use on my 1 acre yard the line will last an entire season. Based on the price and light weight design this trimmer is designed for the home owner and so for large acreages or commercial grass cutters I would buy a heavier duty and more expensive model (e.g. Stihl)

Used once runs great!!
You get a piece of paper in with it that tells you not to use old gas in these trimmers. It is hard on these little engines. The only beef i may have with it is if your 6 ft or more you might do some bending over to run it. Im gonna put my old ryobi curved handle on it and it will be just perfect .

Easy to assemble
Update on 5/6/2017. So it's been 8 months, and as a person living in the Arizona desert, you can imagine I don't use the unit very often. But unfortunately the thing didn't last. Last month, the bold from the bump knob popped out, and there was no way to pop it back in, so I had to purchase a replacement knob. This morning, while doing my monthly week whacking, the knob malfunctioned again, but this time the receiver of the knob bolt started rotating, so there is no way to unscrew the bump knob to replace strings. It be dead. Don't waste your money buying this piece of junk.Easy to assemble.Day 2 of weed whacking. So far so good. I didn't know I was supposed to push the priming bulb 10 times, but what can you say. I'm a man so I only go back to the instructions when it doesn't work. The unit functions well for its intended purpose which is trimming grass. I don't expect to use it more than weekly so it seems to fit the bill.Warning: the vibration is strong enough that you need to wear gloves to protect your hands.Only one CON: the shaft can be at least 6 inches longer for comfort. I am 5'6" but I find myself having to bend down a bit to use it.All in all it is a good buy. Let's hope it lasts a fews years.

Good price, starts pretty easy.
It is light and easy to handle. It's a little bit too short for me. I am 6 foot tall and have to bend over quite a bit. Starts pretty easy as long as you use the choke as written on the instructions. I preferred my other one of these with the straight shaft. But still not too bad. Hope it lasts longer than my other one did. The spring in the shaft that turns the head, stripped out and would barely turn the head. Only got about 3 years if pretty light use out of that one. Motor is still good but if it won't spin it's useless.

Remington product great so far, I am impressed.
Love it. Lightweight. Powerful. Love the bump head string release. The cutting of weeds and trimming capacity is amazing with this lightweight but sturdy machine. Ease of starting not bad at all, be sure to read startup instructs on machine. Do that and it starts every time. Did find using a different 2 cycle mix than what comes with it makes it start quicker. Use mixture I used with old weed whacker before it crashed, this machine started in one pull. That ran out so used new gas and supplied mixture and well, you better do it by the book: 5 pulls in Choke, 5 pulls in position 1 and 5 pulls in position 2, bam it’s off and running. Happy weed whacking.

If you are performing anything beyond light yard work seek a tougher machine.
Out of the box, had to give the trimmer a shot of carb. spray, but ran perfect after that. In my opinion the spool for the string is the major fault with this device. The bump mechanism is cheaply built and probably won't last under heavy work. I have worked with trimmers professionally for more than 10 years, I can honestly say if you are performing anything beyond light yard work seek a tougher machine. For the price, if you are just maintaining a cookie cutter home's 1/4 to 1/2 acre lot, this machine is a good value; if you maintain it properly. After two weeks of use:I lowered my rating because of the following: It is tough to start if the gas reservoir is less than half full. As I suspected in my original review, the string mechanism is a giant pain in the rear. It does not hold enough line to even do a medium size yard without a string change. And the bump mechanism does not advance the string because it binds often, especially in brush. While I have these further reservations about the product, for the price, if you are willing to put up with frequent string changes and binding then it is an ok product. If you do not have patience for mechanical problems look elsewhere.

It works
Good for the price. The black shroud is part of the crankcase. That was a little loose on mine and it wouldn't start. When I tightened it down, it fired right up. Adjusted the carb a little and played with the idle and it works just fine for being half the price of any other weed eater.
