Fun, Capable Crawler for the Money
The Redcat Gen8 V2 is a really nice 1/10 crawler, and it is especially impressive when you consider what you get for the price. It may not have the name recognition of the SCX10 or TRX-4, but you get capable out of the box performance, looks, and durability that is hard to beat. This is a great RTR for someone new to rc, crawling, or just wanting to add a new truck to their collection. The body is detailed and sturdy. The stock electronics are really good for RTR; you can upgrade eventually or if you have other gear already, but there should be no urgency to do so. The stock wheels are beadlocks, albeit plastic, and the tires are very good. The wheelbase is adjustable without any additional parts to buy. It feels well-built and sturdy, but remember what it is and what it's meant to do. If you treat it like a monster truck, you're probably going break something.Don't forget the battery and charger; lipo is highly recommended. You don't need anything huge or crazy; I get plenty of punch and runtime from a 3s 2200mah pack. All in all I highly recommend the Gen8 V2. They fixed a lot of the issues with the original Gen8 and kept the price point intact.

Incredible capability and great value!
The media could not be loaded. The capability of the Scout is incredible! So much fun right out of the box. We use a 5200 mAh 7.4V Zeee LiPO battery that lasts about 45 minutes, and charges in less than an hour with a balance charger. This vehicle is durable and takes a ton of abuse. The portal gears and large tires creates a massive amount of ground clearance for tough obstacles. There are many upgrades / mods available and it's fun to build it out with additional lights, roof rack, etc. The video is the stock version, before any mods. The value of the Scout is insane. If you enjoy obstacles and rock crawling, this is for you! Don't forget to get good batteries (get 2 so you can charge one while running the other) and a good balance charger. You'll have loads of fun with the Scout!

Worth Every Penny
Very impressed with this RC Out-Of-The-Box. I am not into competition, just a casual user who drives on the weekends in local areas. It's a very capable vehicle with a ridiculous runtime (1.5 hours+) per charge.I use the Redcat Racing 7.4V 3200mAh Lipo Battery (2S) typically sells for about $36 US. Even though you can use up to a 3s battery I wouldn't recommend it for two reasons; first of all, it would be too fast to rock crawl, secondly, it would put too much power to the transmission and gearing which could lead to early wear and possibly breakage. The only upgrade I have installed (so far) is a set of Heavy Weight Brass Outer Portal Housing ($30 US) to put more weight on each wheel which helps the tires get some extra grip when crawling over obstacles. One issue to note is the throttle response is jerky, you can go from a slow crawl to a quick burst of unwanted acceleration with just a small touch on the throttle. I have read that replacing the electronic speed control will help with that. One of the more popular ESC is the HobbyWing 1080, those are typically around $40 US.In conclusion; it's NOT perfect however with just some minor adjustments and a small upgrade, this is an absolute blast to drive. It's well worth the price of admission.

Great vehicle for money
A lot of fun. For the money it is a great starter rc crawler. Power is a little hard to control especially with a 3s battery. Seems to be holding up well so far. Running gear seems to be pretty solid for what I have been doing. Pretty impressed for the price. Bought a trx4 and this redcat will do just about everything the trx4 does. Biggest difference is just controllability.

Very cool
This car was a birthday gift for someone who loves RC cars. He also loves the color green so this was perfect for him. This thing really does go up and down rocky hills like it's nothing. Effortless off-roading RC car. We love it and have had many hours of fun with this one.

Total beast, durable and a blast to run!
The media could not be loaded. I've had this Gen 8 scout ii for a while and never gave a review. After finally getting accustomed to the suspension set up, it ran great out of the box. I have since upgraded the drive train, overdrive, cooling fan and numerous other points. The gen 8 scout ii is a steam roller. It's planted firmly and will go over just about anything. I've changed the gearing slightly so it's not as fast. It crawls with ease and is highly upgradeable. The Redcat light kit fits and works perfectly too. I have a trx4 too, but the scout seems to be better planted. Excellent RC CrawlerUPDATE 71423I finally installed the Hobbywing fusion pro, a cooling fan and a new set of adjustable offset wheels and tires. Before this upgrade, the REDCAT GEN 8V2, is like I said before, just a solid, simple crawler. With this upgrade, the Redcat is a stronger, more solid crawler. It only gets better. The are so many things you can do with and to the scout and It is very easy to work on. Upgrades are endless. I did manage to blow out a front axle bearing and the swap out was quick and easy. Just a fabulous rc crawler.

Great value and extremely capable RTR green
After 1 year of ownership I have never broken any parts. The only upgrade you may want are aluminum beadlock wheels to get more weight down low. I also added the LED light kit and light bar. I clean it after every run and it still looks new. I love the unique green metallic color and used the included sticker sheet to give it some contrast.I drive this crawler on a 3s 5200 mah battery and it is powerful. The Esc is a little jumpy but you can get used to it after running it for a while. I run it most of the time on a pile of rocks in my back yard and it performs excellent. I would 100 percent recommend the Gen 8 platform to anyone wanting a durable, budget friendly RC crawler.
