Amazingly delicious — check out my recipe!
I didn’t use to eat groats often bc I mistakenly thought the soaking preparation and cooking just took too long and was too much hassle. So I rarely ate them.HOWEVER, I have recently discovered a new way to eat groats that requires no cooking — and they taste so good it’s a total game changer:I rinse 50g of groats, then put in a bowl and covered with approx 240ml of water - enough to have about an inch of water covering the oats. I add 1tsp of ACV (apple cider vinegar) to help break down the phytic acids. I then stir and cover with a lid, leaving some room for vent, and leave to soak at room temperature for approximately 8-12 hours (z5)4 the longer the better. Then I rinse the oats in a sieve and add 150g Greek yoghurt, half tsp cinnamon, 1tsp cocoa powder, 10g nuts/ seeds (whichever I fancy), berries and banana slices and 10g peanut butter or almond butter. I sweeten a little more with half a tsp of glycine power if going to bed, to help sleep and boost collagen. It keeps me full until breakfast (I used to wake up hungry). Most of all. It’s delicious and so easy to make - virtually zero 0️⃣ time/effort prep.

Clean, not dusty, super flavour and a nice chew to the texture
The media could not be loaded. I have a gadget which mills oat groats. I used to order a 5 kg tub of oat groats from one of the few suppliers available in the old days when I first purchased the milling gadget. Now we can buy in a smaller amount and more frequently they will be fresh. On my search on Amazon, I find most sellers are selling oat groats coming from the Netherlands or Austria, well I live in Scotland and this seemed ridiculous, so I was delighted to find these groats being sold here are from Scotland. They are very tasty with a good nutty flavour, have a nice chew to them & work well for both dry milling our breakfast oats or making oat milk after soaking. We do not cook our oats, we always eat them raw with plant milk, that way they really fill you up and retain their nutrients. I have no hesitation in recommending these. The seller says these “oats are cleaned and briefly toasted using dry heat and prevents it from becoming rancid”, this means I am not nervous about eating them “raw”, also, I detest the smell of rancid oils in grains & oils, which occurs when they are not stored correctly, this processing above does help keep them from going rancid but do store in a cold pantry or fridge in an airtight container to prevent this oxidation occurring, not everyone can smell this odour. Remember to soak them...
They're great. I soak them overnight and then cook the next morning as per instructions. No dramas. Be mindful of quantity though - a little goes a long way.

Healthiest oats
There seems to be different ways to cook these, I do 1 cup of oat groats, 2 cups water and 35 minutes in the instant pot with natural release. I pour them into a container, they go a bit solid when cold and cut the portion into 4 servings. I take out 1 each day, add a splash of oat milk and then 2 minutes in the microwave. Add maple syrup or other sweetener and fruit. They are so filling, comforting and not the usual porridge texture, which I like. Can also be used in savoury dishes, like rice.

Perfect
5 minutes pressure cook in an instant pot then 2 hours on the keep warm setting. 2 parts groats to 3 parts water. Perfect every time. Much prefer this to porridge.
