Great for Teens!

This was recommended by a friend so I purchased it for a 16 year old who struggles with OCD. They absolutely love it! There are cute pictures and graphics inside which makes it interesting and fun for younger people. I didn't want to post pics of the content bc of copyright, but the graphics are like big words and fun text, very eye catching. The whole book and all graphics are black and white. The content of the material is very good and its an easy read with lots of breaks and short chapters. A definite buy for anyone dealing with OCD, but especially great for younger readers.

There are wonderful nuggets of wisdom throughout this book

As a clinician, I am going to recommend Stuff That’s Loud to all my teenage clients with OCD. Although teens are the intended audience, I think that parents of teens, and adults with OCD would enjoy it as well. Professionals working with teens will find this a quick read that will help them approach treatment for teens with OCD. The authors are leading experts in treating OCD with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Sedley and Coyne have a clear and concise writing style that likely eases the cognitive load, making it easier for readers who are distracted by obsessive thoughts and anxiety about academic demands. There is freshness in their approach. There are wonderful nuggets of wisdom throughout this book. It is quite special that the wisdom and experiences of a teen, Ethan are woven throughout this book. It is clear that the authors know how to communicate with teens. Illustrations are lovely and spot on. The unofficial beginning of Stuff That’s Loud sets a wonderful tone for the entire book. It starts with two different teens sharing their personal experiences with OCD. What follows is a quotation of one of my favorite passages about fear that is from the writings of Pema Chodron. The section on spiraling provides a variety of different ways OCD presents in teens. There is a clear and important message to the reader that “you are not alone.” The authors emphasize curiosity, noticing, willingness, flexibility and doing what matters as key components to unspiral from OCD. The authors describe helpful suggestions on how teens can communicate with parents. I appreciate the authors including the importance of social connection, sleep, diet, exercise, and limiting screen time. Medication, therapy, and finding helpful resources such as the International Obsessive Compulsive Foundation provide a good summary of effective ways to reach out for help.

extremely helpful, thorough understand of OCD, and humor - all in one

As a therapist specializing in treating child and adolescent OCD, I really found this book especially helpful.  I just sent a link to it to all my teen clients and their parents.  Some of the few workbooks that are available on this subject do not have enough information provided to understand how OCD works and why the particular treatment is suggested.  The book provides many teen examples so teens can find themselves in the book. The examples reflect the complexity often found rather than overly simplified.  The authors know how thinking goes and their examples about thoughts and experiences are right on. They help teens cultivate curiosity, willingness,  giving a s#!%. They help teens recapture their life and what matters to them Cultivating this attitude is an important addition to approach. Finally, there is humor here, a great tone and great drawings. I think teens will both enjoy and find this book really helpful as they return to freedom and joy in their lives with treatment of their OCD

Very Helpful

We bought this for our 14-year-old daughter, and she has found it very helpful. I read it, and could relate with the language, and it helped me to empathize with her. Well written, great illustrations, and crafted with great care by professionals with a lot of experience and training.
