Very well made. Beautiful. I have not been able to use it yet as I am recovering from a stroke, however, it looks great on my counter.

This is a great looking quality piece
This is a great looking quality piece. The pestle fits comfortably in the hand. The mortar is very heavy, which was expected from the size and stone material but the bottom is rough and scratched my counter, would have been avoidable if I set it on a cloth. The weight also makes it difficult to wash. I don't use it often but it makes a great decoration when left out.

You won't be disappointed.
I use it often. It honestly is a 5 star product. Proportionate, sturdy, and looks nice. No down side to it, besides the time it takes to season it as of every mortar and pestle. You won't be disappoonted. I use it weekly. Amazing product. Has a good weight on it as well.

Sheer awesome. I'll let you know right off that my mortar isn't shaped exactly as the one pictured. However, it's still great. I love the weight. It doesn't scoot on the counter when I am grinding herbs. It's easy to clean. For the price and quality, this is a great purchase.

Great value though there are a few issues.
I bought this item at Costco for $14.99 and it is certainly good value. I have used mortar and pestles for some time and I have used a wide variety. There are a few aspects to this item that could be improved. The pestle is shorter than I would like as many times I want to hold the pestle in a grip where it is at 90 degrees to my forearm so I can apply downward and lateral pressure. To hold the pestle in this position requires that the bottom of your hand clears the lip of the mortar and this pestle is not tall enough for that. The other thing is that the mortar bowl, and the pestle grinding end, should have complementary constant radii so that the bottom curve of the pestle stays in contact with the mortar bowl at all times. Both the mortar and the pestle's curvature is not constant and there is an area where material collects and you have to move it back into a contact area to continue grinding. Ikea has a smaller, similarly priced unit, that does have a constant radius and even though it is substantially smaller than the Casa Maria, you can grind things more effectively because of the complementary curvature relationship between the mortar bowl and pestle.
