Exciting Read
I really like the FMC Sorsha - she's smart, tough, and a bit of a vigilante - rescuing the "monstrous" shadowkind from collectors. The three higher shadowkind she rescues at the start of the book, Ruse, Thorn, and Snap, decide they owe her a debt of protection and she becomes pulled into their investigation to find their captured boss, Omen. There is a lot of excitement, danger, and even some sexy times. Overall, a great read. I can't wait for the second book.

Confusing
Couldn't finish. I will say there seems to be a study pace of story telling, yet I was still bored to tears! I made it to 54% and decided this book wasn't for me. Our fmc is hard to understand, she has a big heart to shadowkind and it's explained how one has pretty much raised her and how she rescues them, yet she has such a big mistrust for them? It's really confusing and making me think, well who are the bad guys here? These collectors? Hunters? Or the shadowkind? Because the way she goes out of her way to not trust these beings she makes no sense? And it drags this read on while blurring the lines on who we shouldn't trust in this read. The sex with ruse pretty much was my breaking point, beside her being in a group that she herself doesn't even relay on?! Scratching head! Anyways! He reads some of her thoughts an tells her right away, he's sorry about it and our fmc pretty much grasp her pearls in outrage! For being sympathetic to who and what these beings are, she jumps right away at being kinda of an a*** about it. I'm just really confused on this whole entire read.

3 demons and a girl
Where does that leave us? At the beginning of a great story. There’s some good cuddle time, some kick ass fights, some plain old mayhem, and a LOT of attitude from all the characters. Loved the book. Can’t wait for the next in the series.

Good Story
I did enjoy the book. The pace was a little slow for me. But that is not unusual in the first book in a new series as character and world building take up a good part of the book. I enjoyed that the team figured out real clues that lead to their objective. I could have done without the friends with benefits aspect of the book. It did not repulse me, but I prefer more romance than gratuitous sex. The scenes were tasteful and not obscene, nor did they take up too much of the book. The main objective was fully dealt with in this book but there was more to explore in this ongoing saga of evil humans experimenting on the Shadowkind. I suspect this will be a multi series urban fantasy.

Sick of tropes!
For the love of goodness, will para authors please stop have their main characters, especially the female ones, blame everything that goes wrong on themselves? It's old, it's trite, it's boring.

Meh
The book had really great parts and then reallly slow parts that seemed to drag on. I will read the next book in the series because this one peaked my interest enough.
