These books are not for children—they’re for adult scholars of Victorian literature with an unhealthy interest in antique textiles and pre-decimal currency. Nearly every line is packed with words like petticoat, taffeta, silk twist, padusoy, scalloped flaps, shank-buttons, piddle-dee-dee, tuppence, groat, and fo’pence. If you’re not already fluent in the pocket change and sewing jargon of 18th-century England, you’re out of luck.I would wager there are zero children—and honestly, almost zero adults—who actually open, read, and enjoy these books. It’s impossible. This isn’t something you read; it’s something you display to look like a nostalgic, upper-class parent. It’s a classy baby shower gift, meant to sit on the nursery shelf and gather dust while the child asks for literally anything else.

I know it’s a great book set because I bought one at a bookstore years ago. I ordered this one, and it came in a box with no padding. A corner of it was banged in, so I had to return it.
