"A Fresh Perspective on a Timeless Leader: A Review of 'Great Lives: David: A Man of Passion and Des
I recently read "Great Lives: David: A Man of Passion and Destiny" and was captivated by the author's insightful portrayal of David's journey from a young shepherd to a mighty king. I particularly appreciated the exploration of David's flaws and struggles, making him a relatable and human figure. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in biblical history, leadership, or personal growth. Its engaging narrative and thought-provoking reflections make it a compelling read for individuals of all faiths and backgrounds.

Draws great biblical parallels
Very interesting and well-written. The author draws many parallels to David's life with God's will, in a biblical manner. Loved it!

A Good Bible Study and Lessons from the Life of King David
I've always admired Dr. Chuck Swindoll's radio ministry, as I believe he preaches the unadulterated Word of God. His Insights For Living are lessons I have carefully listened to and tried to apply to my own life. A while back, I recall him doing a series of radio programs on the life of King David, and I believe those programs resulted in him writing this book.I heartily recommend this book to those who desire a study of King David and his life and times. Swindoll takes his information directly from Kings and Chronicles, and considers the life of David from when he was a young boy tending his father's sheep, to an old man of 70, about to die. Swindoll tells King David's story and the lessons Christians can learn from the most written about person in the entire Old Testament. Swindoll is a list-maker, and in each chapter he provides a list of key ideas or lessons to be learned by King David's attitude or actions that are applicable to believers today. For example, what kind of mindset is required to face down a giant challenge, such as a Goliath? What does it mean to be "A man after God's own heart?" How can a man of faith commit adultery and then have a man murdered in order to steal his wife? What should our response be with our children rebel against us? These and many more questions are asked and answered in Swindoll's book.I am using this book as a nightly Bible study and I can hardly wait to get to bed to read another chapter. I have enjoyed this book so much that I will likely purchase the next book in his series on Biblical characters.I knew very little about King David before beginning this study, and as I come to the conlcusion of the book, I feel I know the general outlicne of David's life so much better, and have improved insights into his personality, his struggles, his moral failings, and his faith in his God. David's life is one of great contrasts. Since he is the most written about person in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit must want us to learn about this Man of God, and learn how he failed and how he suceeded in his walk of faith. This is not a difficult book to read. Swindoll writes for the average reader, yet has insights and clarity that will benefit the church deacon or pastor. I most highly recommend this book as a great starting point to learn about the greatest King of Israel.konedog

Easy Read with New Insites
I love biographys but Biblical ones are not something I would normaly choose. I heard on National Public Radio (NPR)a while back a review (or was it a brief discussion?) about this book that was very positive.I didn't really know what to expect "style-wise" but it was a comfortable, easy read. I would say it was more like a relaxed "sermon" (which I mean only in the most positive light). For readers not particularly familiar with David's life, there were "reminders" of people and actions that happened earlier in the book. These reminders would help the reader to keep track of characters and/or significant events that happened in an earlier section of the book.I learned several things I did not know about David's life that could be applied to today's life. The author took the time to research several words or phrases (Greek sources and/or other authors) that more completely explained an interpretation and meaning of a phrase. The analisys of the "lessons we would learn" from David's life were interesting and informative whether you view the Bible/Old Testament as a literal interpretation or a parable. It's nothing radical, just a thought provoking discussion/concepts interesting to ponder.

Not disappointing
I had this book years ago & gave it to a friend. I have read a lot of Christian books & this is probably in the top 2 of the best I've ever read. Charles Swindoll's books have never been disappointing. This look at the life of David is encouraging in that Christians are not perfect, just human & forgiven. I order this 2nd one to refresh my memory. My first one had larger print but the print is smaller in this one.

A good book that studies the life of David, from the Bible.
No other Old Testament figure has as many pages written about him as David, the second king of Israel. This book has many insightful looks into King David, who, is a figure of Christ Himself. I recommend any of the "great lives" series by Chuck Swindol. They are always insightful, accurate, and help along the way of understanding our Lord Jesus Christ. You will get a whole new picture of Christ through the life of David, and, if you are saved this will be an immediate treasure for you. If you are not saved, this book points you to Bible verses where you can read about the great sacrifice a kind, loving, merciful God made that we can have the hope someday we may be saved asa well.Good book for both believers and non-believers alike. Check out all the "great lives" series of books to help you learn and grow as a Christian. Much scripture is in these books- and it's the BIBLE that can lead us to Christ (faith commeth though hearing and hearing through the WORD OF GOD)...........Romans 10:17

Great Study
This is a well thought out book. Easy to read, great narrative, and biblically based. It has impacted my life and helped me understand the trials I have been through and will go through a lot better.

Awesome read!!!
I’ve read most of Swindoll’s “Great Life” series and this was the first one I read that got me hooked. The story of David is about the man behind the greatest story in the bible and arguably the greatest story ever, since it’s true, and reveals how God will use flawed people (like all of us) to become great!!

Book……
…..about the story of David in the Bible.Inspired to study the life of David, he being renowned for many events, including the sending of his leading Military Soldier to the front line, his goal to ensure his death in action, having taken his wife in adultery.David tried manipulation, whilst seemingly being the man called by God to be King of Israel. How could I reconcile such actions by David, supposedly God’s “man”, yet so obviously taking actions that are “not good” by any standard. The story, “soap like” in it’s content.I want to learn how a “man of God” actually remains in God’s favour, when to me, his actions are so profoundly wrong. This publication, I hope will help me.

Excelente libro
Libro recomendado al 100%. Dios usa hombres comunes, aunque estos tengan que pasar el proceso, solo basta un corazón dispuesto y humilde.

Consistent
The book doesn't delve very deeply in the analysis of David's life and doesn't bring any additional information that can't be found in the Bible. However, it's well written, a fast read and perhaps makes it easier to understand the most important aspects of David's life and their meaning than just reading the Bible would. It's definitely a good book, but fell a little short of expectations on details.
