A beautiful book that will be with you forever
I been waiting for this book for a few month and i could not help reading most of it in one long sitting. Growing up not to far from Fäviken and having the great luck of enjoying a meal there with my son back in 2018 at the slagbordet makes it a very special read. The idea of writing a book about a closed restaurant is bizarre in a way but I think this book captures it so well for us that had the blessing of eating there and for those who never will get the chance. In a way im one of the later too. I really wanted to go back in late summer to experience what they would have shared with us with summer produce and this book give at least a hint of what it could have been. Just the images takes me back to my meal there and experiences i had in my childhood on a farm outside Ånge in Medelpad, Sweden. The book is a nice mix of recipes, stories behind them and sections about techniques and philosophies. If you in any way are facinated by Magnus Nilsson and Fäviken, you just have to own this book.

Wonderful gift for fans of Magnus Nilsson
I purchased this as a gift for my husband, who has been following the careers of Magnus Nilsson and Rene Redzepi for several years now. This book is beautifully put together -- something we have come to expect from New Nordic chefs -- and features recipes and anecdotes from Magnus. While some recipes may not be easy for the average home cook to prepare, many are either adaptable or great for inspiration. My husband has already made a batch of Tasty Paste, which made our house smell like delicious umami goodness for several days. While we are sad that we never made it to Faviken, this book provides us with a chance to imagine what it was like for all involved, and we are thankful for that. My husband and I are definitely looking forward to seeing what Magnus Nilsson will be working on in the coming years.

2/5 for Amazon 3.5/5 for the book itself
Amazon: It looks like Amazon dropped my book directly on its corners several times before shipping it. If I wanted a "good" condition used book, I'd have bought that. The book: It's incredibly full of stories about Faviken's food. The images leave a lot to be desired. Not because the photography is poor, but because they are shrunken and the brightness is dulled perhaps from the choice of paper and/or ink. The plates are so small and dark one needs a magnifying glass and noon daylight to see detail. Why does a plate only take up less than one twentieth of a page or only 1 1/4"? It's a pretty, rustic wooden table, but I want to see the food. Was it rushed to production to meet pre-orders? Stop pre-ordering and giving incentive to make poorly finished or unfinished products!

Excellent
Excellent read and great recipes from a rare short lived genius. Still don’t understand why the French chefs create many restaurants around the world even after death but Northern European chefs like Magnus and redzepi seem to excel in destroying their various restaurants to find freedom leaving nothing for anyone else except themselves, at least Magnus loves to share his story in this book which is awesome! Great French restaurants are like schools training so many future chefs. Rene has created and destroyed his worldwide restaurants and even his one remaining restaurant has died and come back, I hope future chefs learn from his creative genius but don’t follow his defeatist business models.

read and use
This author and chef is so fantastic. I was under no delusions that I would cook from this book, but it has definitely influenced how I think and work in the kitchen as well as the garden. I love how Chef Nilsson writes, he's definitely a step above the norm.

The man can write
Great book by Magnus N. who took the restaurant world be storm with his Faviken. The personal stories chronicling his highs, lows, struggles, and future plans are amazing, and the recipes come straight off his restaurant menu. I was a bit put off by the price, but the book is meaty and full of great photos. The writing is thoughtful, in depth. This is a transportive read to be had with a full glass of red.

Quality of print is unusually bad for Phaidon
I am quite disappointed by the unusually bad quality of the print. The photo's look pixelated and the colours are very bland and dull. I don't know if this is because Amazon sells some B-grade print, but I'm definitely not used to Phaidon publishing this type of 'copy-shop' prints. Anyone else experiencing this?
