Everytime he was in the presence of the Kalahari Tribe I can feel each and every movement of excitement. I was continually sitting on the edge of my seat, feeling as though I was actually there. If you're looking for a little adventure to Spiritual Healing & understanding indigenous medicine, this book gives it. When I hold drumming circles it is to tap into the Consciousness of Inner Ecstatic power that we have to heal or have a break through for solutions. This book changed my life. Literally. From the first chapter, I felt an exhilaration and tremble from within that I can't explain. It filled me with great joy and a visceral reaction that stayed with me. That was 10 years ago.

I always have a few of these for gifts. Powerful initiator for the seeker. I like the second one even more, shaking medicine, but this one has more of Bradford's personal story, less history and background of shaking and its spiritual and cultural implications.

People who live in isolated and poor parts of the world can be enlightened spiritually and emotionally. Brad Keeney helps people understand that the inner life can be complex and rewarding, regardless of where we live. I bought this book immediately after seeing him speak at an ACA conference and got it signed at the same time. He is charismatic and engaging. Reading the book though, he started to come across as self-important and bragging how shamans that never would talk to other white people were quick to embrace and teach him. Still, his expeiences seem real in his descriptions in this book and I wanted to delve deeper into the subject to perhaps personally explore it myself. I googled Bradford Keeney and found his site. Besides seeming a little too new-agey for my taste, it brings to light the cottage industry of Keeney. Whereas the people that he studied under did not charge him, he will sell you a 12 cd "home study course" for $250. I have no problem with peoples' rights to earn a living but $250 strikes me as an expensive price. He makes his points about how he has been called upon to share shamanism with the west. I feel that the book misled me about the nature of his selflesness after coming across his website.
