Very good buy for the price. Work better than the regular coarse layered ones do.Removes very fine particles from water.Filter mesh cloth is very fine and can clog easily if your tank has algae problems.

I bought this to use as backup and replacement filter cartridges on the Filter for my 20 Gallon tank. I have not used yet but I really love the Cascade filters and the cartridges that came with it are awesome, so I will have to assume that these are pretty awesome too. I can say that the package arrived just as described and in good time, and well sealed.

The cartridges themselves are okay. They work as expected. However, I've ordered them twice and the product description (as of my second order in March 2019) doesn't match what I received. Before placing my second order I checked with Amazon customer service to make sure the product description was right, I didn't want to order it a second time if I was only going to get 3 cartridges. I was assured I would receive 9 cartridges. When my second order arrived, I again only received one pack of 3 cartridges. When I checked back with Amazon customer service I was told the product description on the website is incorrect and will be corrected.Besides the incorrect product description, I don't love this type of filter cartridge. The beneficial bacteria that convert ammonia and nitrite to nitrate live in the filter foam (white stuff in the cartridge) and probably on the hard surface of the cartridge, so throwing the whole cartridge away every month or so when the carbon is "used up", isn't great for the aquarium. You're throwing away an established colony of good bacteria that helps clean your tank! If I had realized this was the only type of cartridge available for the filter I wouldn't have ordered the filter in the first place. I've had wonderful experiences with Penn Plax filters in the past and didn't take the time to look close enough when ordering. Which leads to my other complaint about these cartridges. The current price is $7.49, which seemed like a reasonable price for 9 cartridges but is ridiculous for 3 cartridges considering the filter itself only cost $16.99.Unfortunately, I think I'll end up replacing the Penn Plax filter rather than order these replacement cartridges again. I own two Penn Plax canister filters and love them both, I HIGHLY recommend their canister filters if you have a large tank or turtles. You'll probably be better off looking at a different brand for hang on back filters though.

the charcoal in the filter was smashed into a fine powder , after rinsing filter out no charcoal was left
