Linear Algebra and Its Applications (3rd Edition)

From my personal experience, this textbook is amazing. Compared to many other math textbooks that I have used, I can actually understand the book's explanations if I miss anything during class. The exercises are great, however the last set of questions from the exercises are generally challenging because the author is trying to hint at the next section without telling you. The textbook is also pretty small and light so it is easy to carry around.

In teaching an elementary linear algebra course to advanced high school students, I've tried many textbooks and found no success till I've found Lay's Linear Algebra. Clearly written, students understood the concepts without mathematical math jargon getting in the way. Examples are plentiful and solved thoroughly. Questions at the end of each section provide "true or false" type conceptual questions, which I love because I always use such type of reasoning questions myself. Best linear algebra text I've seen thus far!

I just took Linear Algebra with a professor that stuck heavily with proofs, did few numerical examples, and made oodles of errors on the board. We were using a different textbook that treats the student like they know what they are doing, which was of little help to me. I bought this book along with the study guide and it was immensely helpful, I feel that I learned more in this course on my own time than in class because of this book. My print copy wasn't stellar, and some of the pages were slightly out of order (like the first page for the chapter being smack dab in the middle of the previous chapter's final problem set) but I paid very little for it and can't complain. This book treats you like you are competent but may not remember everything from prior math classes, it also teaches you common mistakes along with strategies to solve problems. As a mathematics major I found it invaluable.

This book is been very helpful in my higher college math class so far. I had some problems, but overall its all good.

Good supplement for my students.

Straight forward and to the point. I wish I had this book some thirty years ago when I did Linear Algebra at Queens College of CUNY!Some chapters and more challenging than others, but what do you expect in this higher level math course! Answers to odd numberedproblems are supplied! Sorry, I can't give it five stars, there are some short comings, as there are in ALL high level math books!
