I’m assuming you’re referring to the threaded mounting/inlet point: No, there is no locking but. The only nut on the mechanism is the wing nut for adjusting water level. Hope that helps.

Q: Using as pool auto filler. My threaded base measures 3/4". I'm confused about the 3/8" and what it measures. Will this one work?

It refers to 3/8" Iron Pipe Size, the size of the male pipe on the filler.

Q: Is the float over 5" from the gasket at tank to the end of float?

At its maximum position (similar to the product photo) the end of the float is 6 3/8 inches from the valve mounting surface. The float can be repositioned upward or downward, reducing the distance at most to about 4 1/2 inches.

Q: How do I know what size fill valve I need?

It depends on the PVC size you are connecting to. If you are using 1/2 PVC pipe you will also need a (3/8 thread to 1/2 thread bushing) and a 1/2 female adapter. This set up works well....... All sizes mentioned are in standard PVC sizing.
