One of man's most beautiful creations.
Classic. A "must have" for any cultured library. One of the best-selling books of all time, Wikipedia reports that it has sold over 100 million copies since its original publication in 1923.Like so many middle-eastern works, it contains a story within a story. A wise young man (the Prophet) visits a land only briefly and is asked questions which he answers in a deeply profound manner. Each question is a chapter: love, marriage, children, giving, eating and drinking, work, joy and sorrow, houses, clothes, buying and selling, crime and punishment, laws, freedom, reason and passion, pain, self-knowledge, teaching, friendship, talking, time, good and evil, prayer, pleasure, beauty, religion, and death. Few would be able to top Gibran's tender insight and profound understanding. Written with such sensitivity, it is difficult to imagine the author was struggling with poverty in gritty NYC. Ars longa.Illustrated by the author. If you don't have a copy and haven't bought one for each of your children, your best friend and your lover, you have missed one of man's most beautiful creations.

like to have lovely things in my home
I was first introduced to The Prophet when I was a college student in the 1950's and bought a copy then. In the flooding of Katrina, I lost all my books--1000 or more--including, of course, The Prophet. At the time, I said I would never buy another book; I would go to the library if I wanted to read. I do, however, like to have lovely things in my home, and Kahlil Gibran's masterpiece is not simply a book; it is a work of art, both the words and the illustrations. This recently purchased copy is identical to my previously owned copy, and I am so happy to find the replacement.

The Prophet by Kahil Gibran
This is my all time favorite book. Many excellent lessons for a good life. Kahil Gibran was a fascinating writer and I am also now enjoying The Madman by him. The Prophet though, is a book I will read over and over though the years. Amazon is my favorite book store these days.

The Prophet
Have given probably dozens of copies of this book as gifts over the years, which tells what I think of the book. As for the seller, the experience was good. It took a hair longer than I would have liked to be delivered, but it was delivered well within the time promised by the seller right up front. The price was right, and the book was in perfect condition.

The Prophet
I owned this book in college and loved it. Just bought it for my partner and she loves it too. Kahlil Gibran's writings are still applicable today, and a great map for living a peaceful and respectful life. The book arrived in mint condition earlier than expected.

This classic always makes a wonderful gift for those whom seem to have it all
This classic always makes a wonderful gift for those whom seem to have it all. I've had my own personal copy since the 1970's and its quality still sleeks for those who seek the spiritual wisdom it so naturally offers. Thanks so much Amazon!Kelly

must read
An all-time classic! Understandably, the book cover is not in good condition, as it is an original, but to my way of thinking it only makes these precious writings of antiquity more valuable. Excerpts from the book were used in my husband's and my outdoor wedding . . . fourteen years ago.
