It gave general tips like what I could probably find if I just looked ...
The book says "A simple guide for beginners and beyond" and "How to make a soap from scratch quickly & safely" According to this title I would expect that it would teach me (the absolute beginner having never made soap before in my life nor theoretically known how) how to make soap. I also expect it will walk me through the process of making soap in a quick and safe way. Well... the first part which says it's for the beginner doesn't seem quite accurate to me. I as the beginner felt a little lost with this and having read the book feel not only ill prepared but also a little scared of burning myself with lye. It didn't really walk the reader through the process or anything. It gave general tips like what I could probably find if I just looked it up on the internet (actually I'm pretty sure I could find more detail on the internet). While I enjoyed and appreciate the brief history and safety tips of soap making I don't feel this book fully prepares the beginner for making soap and I have a feeling that intermediate to advanced soap makers (the "beyond" part) will no longer find most of this information helpful. It's nice that it included a brief description of the different processes to make soap but it falls short of my expectations. The second part where it says "how to make a soap" is exactly what it says... how to make A soap... as in just one. It's only recipe is for an olive oil soap. While this is possibly a good recipe it only covers one method of soap making and only the one type of soap. It tells the reader you can add other things but doesn't really tell you how or when to add them in. There is much left to be desired in this book which is a shame since it probably have offered beginners a lot more insight. Maybe I need a book like 'The idiot's guide to soapmaking" and "1001 soap recipes' (if such books actually exist) but I would assume books marketed towards beginners would sort of hold your hand through the process and I would expect each type or processing to have a recipe and instructions to go with it. It wasn't bad and maybe it meets other beginners needs but I don't feel it meets mine. I think it has some good information on history and safety and that earned it 3 stars from me since I did like that part but I can't honestly say it's more than okay without the additional information I feel it lacks. If all you want to do is make an olive oil soap this might be a good book for you.

Short read, very helpful.
This is a really well written and constructed e-book. I am not a soap maker, I have never made soap and wasn't even sure what went into making soap, but I have been curious about it lately so this book was perfect in helping me decide if I wanted to try and make my own soap or not.It starts by giving a small amount of info about how soap making started. Normally reading about the history of something would be a bit boring, well in my opinion anyway, but this section was pretty short and written in a way that was actually interesting. So I enjoyed that. The next chapter tells about the different materials you might need for making soap and also explained some of the words used in recipes, so you aren't completely lost when you start reading about how to make soap. After that, there is a chapter explaining the different soap making methods. This chapter was particularly interesting to me because I didn't even know how much went into making soap and how long it would take. And after reading this, I was better educated about which method I'd like to use.The last chapter is very useful if you are planning to make soap to sell. It explains some marketing strategies, and also helps you decide what kind of ingredients you should use and what type of suppliers would be good for your business. Then it goes into explaining pricing and how you should determine what price you should charge. I like that the author doesn't give specific prices, because you never know when prices will change. But instead, she explains a couple different ways you can go about figuring out what price you should charge. At the end of the last chapter she goes a little more in depth about marketing, and I really enjoyed that part because I have an Etsy shop (not for soap, though) but this is useful information for anyone selling handmade.Overall this was a great, short read, with just the right amount of info for someone who is not sure about if they'd like to start making their own soap, or if they know they want to but isn't sure how to go about it. You can read this in less than an hour so it's not a huge commitment.I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Soap Making Guide
I really love this guide because it caters to individuals who usually mess up recipes and have no clue what they are doing when making soap. I have tried my hand at making soap and I really haven't quite refined my skills yet. This book helpful give me some extra tips and give me easy recipes to follow. I also like how at the beginning it gives a general overview of the soap making process and how it has evolved from ancient times. I didn't know until I read this book about how soap was not used for cleaning your body until later in history. The book breaks down different categories of soaps and explains what makes them all unique from one another. For example, it categorizes industrial soaps as those you would typically use on a car. The next chapter explains common terms that are associated with soap making so that one can effectively read a soap recipe and get it right. It helps to understand the terminology before attempting to make soap. It also names some of the items that you will need for the soap making process. I honestly think that this book does go a bit overboard, in my opinion, about all of the equipment that you need to make soap at home. In my opinion, I'm trying to make the process as simple as possible and the book seems to make it so complicated. I did enjoy the recipes in the back for the soap in will keep this on hand to help me understand the process better. Overall this was easy to read and a very helpful guide for soap making. I received this product in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Short, Glad i didn't buy the physical book!
As the title of my review says, this book is SHORT. For 50p as an e book, that's fair. I wouldn't buy the physical book for the price advertised.Don't buy if you're looking for recipes! There's one, that's it.However, it does have a lot of useful hints for anyone looking to get into the soap making business.
