Curious, she is. Written for all gardeners.
I so enjoyed this book. I found it comforting, funny, realistic and most enjoyable. I own Anna Pavord's Tulip book which is more a reference book but The Curious Gardener is, I feel, Anna Pavord, the real gardener. She does not pretend to know it all, she talks about her failures, her grubby pests and her joys and disappointments of being a gardener. I have recommended it to other gardener friends. I was sorry to finish it.

this book appeared to be in very good condition with pristine spine
There were frequent omissions of words and evidence of prepublishing "white out" corrections. Generally, this book appeared to be in very good condition with pristine spine, dust jacket. So aside from the annoying omissions and "never read" condition I am considering returning this nook. L. SEWALL

She liked it
I actually say my wife reading this 2-3 days in a row so I know the book was interesting and well written. She never gives a book more than a few hours unless its good.

A delightful miscellany
I received this book for Christmas and it has been a delightful companion the past few days. The Curious Gardener is a collection of 72 articles from Anna Pavord's regular column for The Independent which she's been writing since 1986. There's 6 articles per month, followed by a list of key gardening tasks - unusual for this kind of anthology, but adding a useful touch to the elegant prose. The topics covered are wide ranging from a gardeners' horoscope to an amusing account of how her family Christmas has changed over the years. Along the way there are garden visits, a look at the scrum that is Chelsea, growing giant vegetables, how garden media and programmes have changed with the times, alongside advice on choosing trees, slow gardening and growing fruit, flowers and vegetables. All this is written with such a lightness of touch and humour that you forget there's useful information to be gleaned; it's far too enjoyable to be placed in the 'useful' category of books. In addition, each chapter is fronted by a lovely wood engraving by Howard Phipps to set the scene for the month. One to read in one go whilst curled up by the fire, then to keep to hand for a friendly monthly gardening guide.First reviewed on Amazon.co.uk

A gardening book with extras
My trouble with this book was that I chose it by the description on the cover. So I thought it was going to be about Anna Pavord’s gardening experiences related to her life. It turned out to be gardening tips and discussions of different plants that she had grown plus some reminiscences a few of which had to do with her life as a gardener.

A must have for any gardener
I love this book and use it as a To Do list for my garden. Written in a very easy style and feel so motivated to get on with the garden every time I read a chapter. Love it!

Gardening Glory
This book was ordered for my wife. She thinks it is an absolutely fabulous read and no doubt, having read it already, she will return to it month by month in the future.

Anna Pavord: always a great read
As always Anna Pavord's writing is clear and inspirational. As a keen follower of hers in the Saturday Independent I see her as being one of the best garden writers. This book does not let me down at all. She sees gardening matters form a different perspective and hence her insight is always enjoyable.
