Filled with key knowledge about the dangers of pandemics and urgent solutions
As usual Michael Greger has written a masterpiece on a complex subject and made it understandable to ordinary people, yet all the details are discussed in depth, including the history of pandemics, how they originate, and what can be done to stop them before it is too late and a super virus becomes unstoppable. Here is some of what I learned:The immoral push to rush the opening of schools to boost the economy and corporate profits will end when the first child or teacher dies a horrible death on a ventilator while their lungs fill up with blood and fluid. But the essential thing to understand is that the more the virus spreads, the more it mutates and becomes smarter, deadlier and harder to stop. Every day it is learning how to be more virulent and more contagious! Read the book, "How to Survive a Pandemic" by Michael Greger, which explains in detail how viruses get better at infecting and killing people through thousands of mutations daily. That is why everything possible must be done to limit spread before we are faced with a much more deadly pandemic. It is not a matter of IF but WHEN a much worse epidemic attacks us, and we are not prepared for it at all. Students, teachers and leaders should study this science in depth or we are doomed. Debating school opening strategies is understandable, but without the scientific knowledge to back up our decisions there could be thousands more deaths than if we concentrated on stopping the virus asap.Vaccines may help some for a while, but the virus is smarter than any one vaccine and it has already evolved into several new and deadlier forms in animals and it is now evolving into a form that has already killed several people over night. Soon, according to top virologists, the new forms will be jumping "human to human" and will be many times more virulent than COVID-19, and vaccines may not be the only solutions because they take too long to develop. But there are things we can and must do now to prevent the next plague. This book is also available in audio format.

Excellent resource for learning how to avoid illness
I am a huge fan of Dr. Greger’s. As a result of the recommendations he makes in two of his other books and the massive amount of research and science-based information he makes available to everyone for free on his website, my family and I have significantly improved our health after one of us had an unexpected heart attack. As we realize that the new normal in our world may likely be a periodic surge of viruses

A Sobering Read
As usual, Dr. Greger doesn't disappoint. Probably more facts than you may want to know, but fascinating. His science-based approach to all his books is a welcome relief from all the misinformation out there. Who knew that the not-for-profit author of How Not to Die, How Not to Diet, and founder of the Nutrition Facts Org Website specialized in Infectious Disease in earlier years? This is timely information for the world, with explanations of how this virus came to infect humans, it's attributes as we know them at this point, comparisons between prior viruses, preparedness, survival and preventing future pandemics. Looking forward to purchasing the hard copy as well, but couldn't wait. I almost cried knowing I have lost the opportunity to ask my grandparents about the pandemic of 1918. Oh to hear about it firsthand! Definitely a sobering and educating read and realization of how we came to this point, and where we need to head.

Compeling - I was totally unaware that a bird flu pandemic is very likely within 10 years.
Dr. Greger's How not to diet change my life -for the better.I now have a 99% plant-based diet (I eat some goat cheese and free-range eggs)I was extremely impressed with his depth of understanding and ability to describe a very complex subject. His new book is changing my life even more.I will work on improving the immune systems of chickens around the world so as to prevent a pandemic bird flu - which Dr. Greger points out will be much worse than COVID-19.I feel that there is a chance that giving Vitamin D to chickens will be a win-win-win-win-win. Bird Flu will not have as much chance to mutate, Chickens live a healthier life, increased Vitamin D in chicken meat and eggs, healthier consumers, less use of antibiotics, etc.Dr. Geger points out that many thing have been tried to prevent bird flu, but I feel that Vitamin D might be a good solution. Lahore "vitamin d"

Engaging and thorough
I first encountered this author when doing nutritional research (he had a best nutritional bang for your buck post about vegetables) and I found his posts both funny and interesting. It turns out that before he started focusing on nutrition, he worked with infectious disease prevention.I was impressed that Dr Greger managed to write such a huge book so fast because this book came out in 2020 and he only write it because of the pandemic. So here I am buying it and reading it 3 years later because it's so interesting and well written. I hope I won't need it in the future, but you never know. o_O
