Muromoto Ironworks Merry CN5-51 Cassette Nipper
Best side cutters around? They are perfectly balanced and do an excellent job for what I use them for. I have used these for over 15 years.

Highly overrated
I bought these after they were recommended by a friend for building models. The blades are pretty dull and comparable to some generic wire cutters I got from Daiso. They're also pretty wide compared to any of my hobby cutters. The form factor doesn't really improve comfort/ease of cutting at all. Cassette pliers turn out to be really awkward and bulky to cut with and the trigger style moves a bit when you cut unlike a standard nipper. The price is also definitely not worth it. I paid $70~ on amazon and I tracked down the manufacturer's catalog and they were MSRP $30. That still feels high to me for these, and you're really only paying for the bragging rights for some subpar hobby cutters. Just grab some Mr. Hobbys if you need something simple or a god hand if you actually need to spend $70.

By any other name would work as sweet, but might make it easier to find.
Finally managed to get my hands on some of these! Cassette Pliers is not the most intuitive name but they are exactly what I wanted and they work a treat. Arranged quickly and safely. Perfect.

World's Best
Okay...they might be expensive for nail clippers, but they are, bar none, the WORLD'S BEST NAIL CLIPPERS.Of course they get used for other nipping, but they live next to sofa in my living room, available 24/7 for the heaviest trimming or the finest hangnail and cuticle nipping. The flush-cut blades are perfect.I have had a pair of these for thirty years and they are as perfect as the day I bought them.I just bought a second pair for a friend who fell instantly in move with and threatened to steal mine.

The Cadillac of Flush Cut Blades.
I purchased a pair of these pliers/cutters from another source, both Merry and Nile Tools brands of Muromoto Tekko a Japanese company. The body of the pliers is painted red and the blades of the tool are modular and the design incorporates a depth stop screw on the handle. This pair ships with the "Flush-cut" blade meant for cutting plastic or very weak metal such as pewter. A variety of other blades are available from Merry for other specific cutting purposes. These pliers are ideal for the purpose of making many detailed cuts in a short amount of time, particularly cutting model pieces off of plastic sprues. If you are, or you know, a devoted hobbyist/model maker I recommend investing in a pair as they speed production and reduce hand pain considerably. In my opinion every hobby shop in the country should have a set of these pliers for sale.

Made to last a lifetime
I bought one of these pliers maybe 15 years ago for sprue cutting. They have worked flawlessly with no dulling or damage to the jaws, and I have used them for more than cutting sprues (precise trimming of my wife's ingrown toenails, for example). The steel used for the jaw mechanism is very hard. Recently they were left in a moist bathroom for a couple of weeks by mistake and froze up with rust. No problem. It's easy to remove the pivot pin and pull out the jaws. A little WD-40 and cleaning and they are good as new. This was an opportunity to see the design and construction in detail. Both are superb. I certainly didn't spend 90 bucks when I bought them. That would have been too rich for my blood.

The best
These are used to cut plastic model parts off of the frames. These are the best, I have had another set for years now. My old set is still sharp, I tried using the plier type sprue cutters, but these are the best.
