Simple Keyboard Input Device, and works with Linux!
This device works as a simple keyboard input device, and as such, works with Linux and any other operating system supplied with a simple keyboard USB input driver.GETTING SCANNED DATADo not be deceived as I was, thinking I had to use "cat" on a device file or use some additional special program for reading the keyboard input data provided by this scanner!Simply open your favorite text editor, such as VI/VIM or even terminal, or if you must office word processor, and click the barcode scanner after connected with the supplied with the barcode scanner's supplied 2.4Ghz USB wireless device.USEFUL SETTINGSSome useful settings will be turning off the vibration notification, turning down the scanner's beep volume, adding or removing the carriage return terminator at the end of the scanned barcode. All these settings and more, can easily be switched using the barcode scanner's manual and scanning the setting's associated QR or bar code. Best to keep these settings on-hand and/or duplicated at your designated scanning areas.MAKING USE OF THE DATATODOAlthough the text/ASCII alphanumeric characters are easily attained, doesn't seem to be any popular inventory database system for consumers, except Grocy and Gcstar. Both seem to have limitations, with Grocy being more easily adapted for inventorying anything.LINUXThe USB wireless device is a 2.4Ghz(?) USB wireless device having a 0581:011C USB vendor/product code. The USB device will provide a /dev/input/event device file, linked to something similar as /dev/input/by-path/pci-0000:00:1a.0-usb-0:1.3:1.0-event-kbd device file. TODO: One will likely need to convert the binary serial data to text for use within a script?PROSEasily configured and utilized barcode scanner, operating system agnostic!CONS1) The accuracy is likely slightly off sometimes, likely due to the scanner trying to read more than one barcode type at once. So likely best, if you're using consistently one type of barcode, use a scanner for that specific type of barcode rather than a multiple type barcode scanner.2) Seems like a cheap grade of plastic is used for the exterior, or not as commercial/durable grade plastic used.3) The plastic holder appears to be readily mountable or used on a desktop, however the plastic holder does not seem to be designed to be mounted to a wall! Or, if holder is mounted to a wall, it's going to haphazardly stick-out from the wall by nine or more inches! This is likely a significant oversight during engineering?4) Made in China. On the flip, I rarely give good ratings for explicitly made Chinese products. This product, so far, just works with a few exceptions.5) Not many barcode scanners can read all of the available types of barcodes on the market. Think this one of the very few on the market currently.6) Performing a search for scripting or software making use of barcode data for database inventory for consumers seems to be significantly lacking. My guess, most are sitting back and waiting for the stores to implement a system of providing consumers already scanned barcodes, and automagically transferred to their private home inventory database. This would be by far much easier, than having to re-scan every item purchased again and again and again! Just send us consumers a list of the barcode scanned alphanumeric characters via Email, and have our home inventory database automatically read in the data. Then consumers only need to negate the item once they use or pull the item from their inventory.

Great for Classroom Library!
This product is excellent! I purchased it to use in a classroom library, and it works perfectly! It scans books quickly and easily. I would recommend using the online manual instead of the paper version that comes in the package. I was unable to turn off the beeping sound using the paper manual but did so easily with the code provided online. As an added bonus, the online manual has a code that allows you to change the settings to continuous scan-perfect for no touch book scanning!

Fantastic; when it works
Pros:+ Reads just about every type of barcode you can imagine+ Mostly easy to configure by just scanning codes in the book (although it can be a bit tricky to make sure it scans the correct code and there's no indication as to which one it took)+ Vibration feedback when scanned is nice so you can disable the beep but still get feedback+ Auto-sensing feature works well; we just leave ours on this feature and place the item to be scanned in front, it almost always works.Cons:- Instruction book is a bit difficult to understand at times, but you can usually figure it out- Beep is REALLY loud (but can be disabled)Initial experience:We purchased two of these to replace an older barcode scanner we had that started having troubles reading some barcodes. When first setting it up it seemed pretty good, except we kept having this weird issue where it was mistyping some of the characters. Since our other scanner was also having some troubles with these codes (although when it would read them, it was correct), I was unsure if it was the barcodes or the scanner. I contacted support who replied the next day and asked for a picture of the barcode we were trying to scan. After sending it to them, they replied back that their scanner was able to read the codes correctly, so it's likely a configuration issue on our computer and to check our keyboard settings. This didn't seem to be the problem, but since it worked for them I tried switching from Ubuntu to Windows which seemed to solve the problem. I followed up with support again to try to figure out what was causing them to not work within Ubuntu but never got the problem resolved (and to this day continue to use them only on Windows machines even though they claim to support Linux).Long-term experience:A couple days ago, after having these set up for about 2 months, the primary one we used seemingly "froze" where it's light was on like it was reading but the red "laser" line wasn't showing up like it normally does and it wouldn't scan anything or respond to any trigger presses. I haven't contacted support about this yet so I'll update this when I do (and hopefully try to resolve the Linux issue while I'm at it).Untested features:~ Battery life (we leave ours plugged in on the dock almost all the time)~ Offline modeBottom line: Overall we've been very pleased with them and they've worked well once we got them set up, at least until the issue with one "freezing." I'll update this review once I resolve the issue with their support.

Good Customer Service
My company purchased 28 of these units for portable inventory scanning, and they have been working well. We have them connected via Bluetooth to either Chromebooks or Windows laptops, and the scanners were able to connect without any trouble. One unit did run into some issues where it was seemingly reading codes incorrectly, including the setting codes (e.g. the reset scanner QR code). Favoto support was very responsive (replied to my emails within 24 hours) and replaced my faulty unit after we attempted several rounds of troubleshooting. In summary, this is a versatile scanner that I'd recommend. If purchasing on Amazon, make sure the seller is Favoto.

scan multimode correct !
