Excellent resource for my 5 year old
Though my 11 year old sat down and read this book as well.We checked this book out from the library. My 5 year old wanted to read it everyday. I had to renew it from the library a couple of times. After 3 months my son didn’t tire of reading this book, and neither did I. I decided we needed our own copy. This is an excellent resource for an overall understanding of many science concepts such as energy and light and beyond. My son himself speaks of molecules and particles, volume and mass, density, 3 stages of matter, and the way colors work. We watched a YouTube video about optical illusions. It mentioned how water refracts light and I was confident my son already understood this from reading about it in this book. Now when my son sees other science books he gets excited to read them because he thinks they’ll be as good as this one. I’m not so sure...

Fascinating and Fun info.
I bought a copy for my grandson and for my nephew in New Zealand. I love the visual explanations for fairly complicated ideas.

Woolly Mammoths Will Show You How Science Works
Mammoth Science devotes a page or two to explaining lots of general science concepts—chapters include earth/space, forces, energy, life and matter. What makes the book unique is the way information is presented—in a lighthearted fashion that uses a woolly mammoth to demonstrate and convey specific topic ideas. For example, the woolly mammoth sits on a cart pushed by two elephant shrews—the silly drawing highlights how acceleration works. Readers can visualize the effects of force and mass in this instance—if mammoth loses some weight, acceleration will be faster. Because two shrews are doing all the work, they push with double the force. Our kids like science to begin with, but having creative drawings like these help reinforce what they learn, and it’s an easier, much more fun way to remember and recall than dry scientific reading.Recommended reading age is eight and beyond, and I think that’s spot on. Many of the pages are still tough concepts for our eight year old to grasp, but there is enough other material in the book that keeps his attention. It's a book that will grow with his increasing interests and scientific questions. This is not a book meant to be read in one sitting, but rather a reference book that makes science easier to understand. Some of our eight year old’s favorite pages are currently the ones that address earth and space science, like rocks/fossils, the moon, solar system and Milky Way.

Useful science book.
Its a good book with some cool representations and ideas. However, my kids didn’t enjoy it too much. I found it useful for explaining concepts like states of matter etc. Not a book they will pick up on their own, but is great for supplementing with a science curriculum.
