LevitonMfg Co C20-01420-000 Cord 3-way Switch, 200-watt, Brown

I purchased to replace one of several vintage Leviton switches. The quality of the current product does not seen as robust as the original I was replacing. Also, had to return the initial purchase because it worked inconsistently. Additionally, note the arrow showing the required dial rotation when operating. Unfortunately, anyone unfamiliar with the switch is unlikely to notice the arrow and may operate it incorrectly resulting in possible switch failure.On a positive note, it is direct back-fit for the switch I was replacing thereby eliminating the need to rewire the lamp(s).

Upon opening the package and reading the enclosed instructions, I discovered that, contrary to its description, this product is NOT really a dimmer, but rather, a Hi-Lo switch. It has only two positions, and is not infinitely adjustable, as one would expect of a dimmer.I own many Leviton products, and have always been pleased with their quality. While I haven't installed this switch (because I need a dimmer), the quality seems excellent, and I'm confident that it would work well. The installation instructions are very clear.Having said that, if you need a dimmer, this is NOT what you need.

Hard to find a cord switch that offers hi-low-off switch that blends in with the cord; in fact, this is the only one I could find. It is great for lamps. Also even if you are only going to be using two 40W bulbs, get this 200W version rather than the 100W version (about the same price) as it is safer to have more Watt capacity than you need. Finally, rather than using the cord puncture connectors, I recommend soldering the wire to these connectors because they sometimes make a poor connection which increases the resistance causing heat to burn out the switch (I've seen these switches actually smoke and melt the wire causing a fire risk which is why I needed this replacement).

Installed this on my incandescent camping light to be able to dim for overnight, and it works great! I did have a lot of trouble following the instructions for the install. I could not get the pointers to make a good contact with the bare wire.So, I ended up soldering the wires to the connections and although was a difficult task, now works fine. (It's hard to get your wires soldered to the tiny connection)

I bought this for an old style lamp I was making using cloth covered wire. Although the wire was 18 gauge it was too large for the switch. Just a little trimming and it worked. The detentes are sloppy. Some times you click over two notches rather than one. This is frustrating when showing your lamp to a customer. Other reviews say the white ones are better. I'll try them on my next order.

Little inexpensive switch that adds a low brightness setting to a normal lamp - good for mood setting. No need for a 3-way bulb. Use good ol' normal incandescent bulbs. I suspect it won't work correctly with traditional cfl or led bulbs. Do unplug it before you install.

First one barely worked; I had to fine adjust wheel at both low and high settings to keep lamp lit. Amazon sent replacement, which works better. So obviously Leviton quality control is bad. Also: incandescent bulbs flicker noticeably at low setting.

The install was difficult. I had to strip some of the insulation off the wires so the pointed copper contact on the switch could get through and make contact with the wire. The operation of rotating the switch is less than smooth and has to be done more than once, it seems, to get the low light level. I am convinced that I like the 3-way switch in concept and want to get another one- just looking for someone other than Leviton.

This switch doesn't have a solid connection when turned on. It goes off if the wheel is moved slightly Also, the design of the pointed plastic on the activation wheel actually hurt the thumb.

It was the perfect fix for my old lamp I had with the same type of switch and I was able to repair it.Works perfectly.

Looks good..but havnt tried it yet.
