Beautiful interactive book
One of my favourite books. I love all the cut out features, pull up flaps, beautiful art work. It’s such a lovely interactive book for toddlers. My boy was 18mths when I got it him but loves it more now he’s coming up to 2.

A delightful, educational book with clever production detail
Exactly what one expects from Julia Donaldson - a delightful and clever book, which completely captured the imagination of my 2.5 year-old grandson. It takes you right through the alphabet, featuring a different, beautifully illustrated animal with each letter. The animals are linked through comparisons: Who is pinker than an elephant? Who can fly better than a pig? Who has more stripes than a yak?, etc. This makes for fun guessing and a lot of discussion as well (“I can jump better than a jellyfish, Grandma!”).But what makes this book really special is the original and clever production: many of the pages have fold outs or cut outs that add significantly to the interest. In terms of educational value, I think the book has a lot to offer: vocabulary development, understanding of comparatives, and of course the alphabet. The font used is large and there is only a small amount of text on each page, so perfect for the intended age range. The cover is hardback and the inside pages a good weight of paper. Nevertheless, the book needs to be handled with care to make sure nothing gets torn. Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful. Lovely
The pictures are lovely. My 2 year old boy loves naming all the animals as we go through and he is a massive fan of this book in general. I know some people don’t like that the book doesn’t make a great amount of sense (they way they go from one animal to another). I do understand that but I still like it and my little one loves it. That’s what matters!

Beautiful book for children
I bought this after buying Counting Creatures by the same duo. I was not disappointed. The most gorgeous illustrations skillfully linked by text that supports phonics learning. Great die cut pages and flaps to keep interest. Would thoroughly recommend as a gift (hardback version) for a 3 year old.

Clever Writing and Illustrations
As ever Julia Donaldson does not disappoint. Simple, but clever clues to each animals, my class of year 2s found it a challenge to remember which letter comes next without going from the beginning each time .... I was quite horrified. So many details in the pictures, which give clues to the next animal.

A beautifully illustrated interactive hit with children!
I bought this book as a birthday present for a 4year old boy. He absolutely loved it! The interactive pages with flaps and holes etc plus the beautiful coloured illustrations, and lots of animals made it a great hit. As it’s the full alphabet it’s a good long read so kept him interested for a long time!

Sons’ current fave but not sure about some of the animals in the book....
My son loves this book - he is three and it’s his current bedtime fave! Interactive and lovely illustration. Only down side for me is that some of the animals are questionable - not obvious choices for the letter but I guess these out of the ordinary animals extend the child’s knowledge!
