Sonic The Hedgehog 4" Shadow Action Figure with Super Ring Accessory

Metal Sonic has seen a lot of figure releases in recent years, and this is definitely one of the better ones, despite the couple of issues that I have with it. Compared to the other figures in this line, this one stands out as being a bit more cheap. Other Metal Sonic figures in the past- notably most of the ones produced by Jazwares- feature a metallic paint job that gives those figures the illusion of being made of metal. The paint job on this figure, unfortunately, is very standard, with the same kind of paint being applied to Metal Sonic here as has been applied to all of the other figures in this line. They use a very dark blue on him here, which looks a little off without it being a semi-reflective surface as it is in the games. As well, the very light gray being used for his shoulders and other parts does not mesh very well with the dark blue paint on his main body, thanks to it not being reflective either. Otherwise, my complaints about his paint job aside, the figure's sculpt is just as on-model as all of the other Jakks Pacific Sonic figures. It looks like he was ripped right out of the video games.One massive benefit that this figure has over others in this line is the inclusion of elbow joints, which allow for much more creative posing. Thanks to his robotic appearance, these elbow joints also look perfectly natural. Metal Sonic's hands are in more interesting and dynamic poses than any of the other figures in this line as well. All of this allows for Metal Sonic to perform some really fun and intimidating poses, perfect for posing in something like a heroes VS villains scene with the other figures.It's worth mentioning that on this figure's back there is some pretty noticeable paint spray over. Metal Sonic has a sort of engine for a chest with its exhaust at the back, which is always yellow with a gray spike in the center of it. The gray spike on this figure seems to have had its gray paint spill over massively into the yellow, which looks cheap. It's such a massive spray over of paint that I'm inclined to think it might be a common issue with this figure rather than a one-off. Many companies tend to ignore Metal Sonic's finer details- and that trend continues here with little consideration being paid to the character's back details.Included with the figure is an item from the video games called a "Trap Spring". In the games, this item appears in levels an as obstacle to get in your way and spring you backwards, and it laughs at you while doing so! It's an appropriate choice to include it with Metal Sonic, and no merchandise of this item has ever existed in any form whatsoever as far as I know, so this is a pretty cool inclusion. The face in the center of it can be pushed in and it will return to its original position when you let go, allowing it to be a decent facsimile of its springy video game counterpart.I would like to note that this figure's packaging is extremely tight. If you try and just rip the figure out of the plastic shell they're contained in, there is honestly a risk that you might just tear it apart right out of the box. I would recommend being really careful when removing this figure from the plastic, or better yet, use a pair of scissors to carefully cut it free from the plastic.Despite it not quite meeting its full potential in my opinion, for its retail price of $10, I would thoroughly recommend this Metal Sonic figure to any fan.

Getting this out of the way first before I even talk about the figure, this figure's MSRP is $10. It's apparently rather uncommon, so it's being sold here on Amazon for around $30 or even more at the time of writing this review. DO NOT buy it at that price. Wait until the figure gets either re-issued or shows up in another wave of Jakks Pacific Sonic figures, which it absolutely will in time.This is Jakks Pacific's second go at a Shadow the Hedgehog figure, second to their bendy figure from last year. Fortunately, this one is a distinct improvement over the previous, not only is it obviously articulated this time, but the sculpt has improved, with it looking pretty much spot-on to how Shadow would look in the video games. His paint detail is all accurate- even the details on the bottom of his shoes, which many companies neglect to paint or even sculpt at all in some cases. If you're looking for a game-accurate figure of this character this is about as good as it gets.A couple of things to note here, his left hand is loosely clasped together, as if he would be able to hold something like a thin accessory-- however, there are no accessories that Jakks have produced that fit into his grip, not even the Rings (included with the 2.5" Chao figure). Hopefully that signifies that even more varied accessories will be coming in the future. His other hand is more open, allowing him to loosely grip objects like the Rings, or the 10 Ring object included with him.There is however, one unfortunate downside to this figure. He's VERY top-heavy, and almost entirely refuses to stay upright without being supported by something else or being placed into awkward, not-so-cool poses. Top-heavy Sonic figures are nothing new (they've got huge heads, after all), but what makes this especially disappointing is that Jakks Pacific in particular has done a very good job ensuring that all their Sonic figures are capable of standing up with no trouble. Except for Shadow here. It really sticks out compared with all the others.I would like to note that this figure's packaging is extremely tight. This time, he comes packed with a 10 Ring item. Pretty self-explanatory, in the games you collect items called Rings, and this one would be worth 10 of them. This accessory is a little bit disappointing, unfortunately. It does not appear to have been designed to fit in with the already-existing Ring accessories included with the 2.5" Chao figure. Its color is entirely different (gold versus a bright yellow), and it's not scaled properly-- 10 Ring items are supposed to be quite a bit larger than the normal Rings. As someone who really appreciates this line of figures for their accuracy and their inclusion of accessories, this is definitely the worst accessory included with any of the figures so far. Maybe wait until Shadow is re-released in a future wave of figures with a different accessory if this matters to you.Overall though, despite the balancing issues and the limp accessory, this is still a very accurate and quality figure. If you can find it for its retail price of $10, it's an easy recommendation.

My son loves Sonic!! This is a really great product. What he especially loves about this figure is that it’s well made, durable and the arms and legs can bend.

Really unhappy. My son asked me to order Knuckles with the last of his birthday money, but Sonic has been delivered.This has caused a terrible meltdown for my 6 year old son, who has now decided he wants to keep this Sonic figure but will now badger me until he gets Knuckles.

I liked the delivery, the price and the item too.
