Bright Brite Bright Brite 10,000 Lumens at full power Makita DML809

I first purchased the lower priced Makita DML81 with one 18 volt with full power of 3000 Lumens (equivalent to two 100 watt incandescent bulbs) for about $170 on Amazon, and it was not bright enough, so I sent it back. I then purchased this more expensive Makita DML809 model at 10,000 Lumens requiring two 18 volt batteries for about $80 more, and it was so much better. It seems to be very well made, and a fan comes on when the unit is running hot. This is the brightest light (requires two 18 volt batteries) that I could find on the market running on battery power, and it is still not super bright. For example, I have a very well lit 20 ft X 30 ft work shop with probably 30 florescent T8 lights (at about 30,000 lumens), and if I had a power outage, I would need to buy two more of these Makita 10,000 lumens lights to equal my shop lights brightness. Don't be afraid to move up to 10,000 lumens output with this light, because I think you will not at all say it is too bright. You will almost always want more light. It is like a closet, you always fill it up and need more space. For abut $80 more you get over three times the brightness over the lower priced Makita model DML81, and you will be glad you did in my opinion. You can always turn down the brightness level if you do not need it, but I always end up using mine on full power 10,000 lumens 95% of the time, and wish I had a little more. I think this is the best light available for today's technology. It comes with a power cord that you can plug it into the wall AC outlet if you do not need it on battery power. I really find this light so useful and handy on so many things I use to do in the dark or very dim light.

It’s pretty ridiculous

10,000 lumens lights up every crawl space I work in. On the medium setting seems to be the most ideal for battery life and good light coverage

Bright, can use both AC and battery

Super bright, versatile light - great for painting, lighting up a crawl space or construction. With two batteries it’s heavy, but with that comes stability. I like that you can also plug this light into an outlet. I looked at the 40v version, but you can’t plug it in - it’s battery only. I generally don’t use the light on full power for extended periods so battery life has been good. For me this light has been great.

Woah! BRIGHT!

Works great and provides daylight at night! I've been wanting this light for a long, long time and I finally caught it on sale. It's super bright and runs a good long time on 2 x 5ah batteries. Im very pleased.

bright as 10 suns

I use it about 5 days a week for 2-4 hours a day and I rarely put in on the highest setting because it is absolutely the brightest light I have ever owned. With 2 5.0 batteries inside it, I only use 2 bars on each battery for about 4 hours of the use on the lowest or middle setting. On the highest setting after a bit the batteries will start whirling because it so insanely powerful. I have only ran it dead once and used it all day basically. Its pretty rugged and heavy but I keep it away from things and treat it like the $500 light it is, also having the option the plug it in is nice as well and has came in handy.

Good light but NOT recommended for LED sensitive individuals

This is a robust and bright construction light and it does its job well. My review is based on a personal experience of how this light affected me, perhaps I am alone in the experience or I could warn others. My story is that the Makita DML809 may have caused me to get really really sick. After using it for a couple of days I began to have HORRIBLE episodes of vertigo. I went to see a doctor to find the cause of the vertigo and after some exams, it was concluded that there was no ear infection and that it was one of those things that happened. Perhaps the vertigo could have been caused by the paint fumes and wearing the 3M respirator mask in a poorly ventilated area but I decided to just stop using it. After a few days I decided to give the light another try but after turning it on I instantly could not bear it and I started to get a headache. It did not matter what setting I had it on. Perhaps the outcome would be different if I purchased the accompanying diffuser but who wants to spend more money these days. I concluded that this light was too strong for me and that I may be very sensitive to the type of LED bulbs (?) that Makita is using. I also noticed that on lower light settings the light will flicker when video recording it on my phone camera. I decided to just return the Makita DML809 and exchange it for the Metabo 18V HPT 10000 Lumen LED light. The Metabo is an excellent light and it is so much better for me because I do not feel the effects that I did while using the Makita. Both lights are battery and AC cord hybrids. I think both are excellent lights but the Metabo is a better fit for me. Thank you for reading and be well.

Its Makita! ITS GOOD!

Very Bright, Very Handy,Yes Pricey, BUT.. If your vested in the 18v system and you need a light dont think twice. Even Great for working on vehicles.. Instead of just getting that trouble light in that perfect position just set this light up and your well lite!

Heavy Duty Bright Worklight

I love how heavy duty and bright this light is on its brightest setting. Bought to use with a cord most of the time and batteries when I need it for short periods of time and it works great. Don't recommend running it off of batteries if you are going to use it on the highest setting as it will drain two 5.0 batteries in about a hour. Other than that super killer work light and worth the investment.
