Doctor Who: The Clockwise War

The End of the Twelfth Doctor's Comic Era
This book collects the final twelfth Doctor story from Doctor Who Magazine, plus the classic Alan Barnes/Adrian Salmon Cybermen strip from the 90s, plus some odds and ends. The twelfth Doctor story not only wraps up this particular Doctor's stories from the past several years, but brings in characters and storylines stretching all the way back to the 90s. To me, the DWM strips have a very unique, distinct flavor, and this story takes full advantage of that, full of color and spectacle and mad imagination far beyond what could be shown on TV. Writer Scott Gray and artist John Ross do a great job telling something that feels a piece with both the TV series and the comics, as well as something with deep connections to the past while still a solid story in its own right. The Cybermen story--collected here for the first time, and now all in color--is genuinely weird and creative. The easy path would have been telling a straightforward story about the past of the Cybermen. This... is something different. It's about the past of the cybernetic creatures from Mondas, but it's about more than that. It needs to be experienced to be understood. Some short stories from DWM Yearbooks round out the book. They're fun, but mainly notable for the pair drawn by Charles Adlard, before he became the superstar artist of The Walking Dead. A couple of the other stories pay homage to classic DWM strips, and they're all pretty nifty.

Doctor Who Graphic Novel 28
This superb series continued with the final Twelfth Doctor story 'The Clockwise War'. There is also a collected saga of The Cybermen which began in Doctor Who Magazine back in #215 and ran to #238. As we are have now reached #539 this has taken a long time to arrive! Every episode is in colour for the first time and the series has never appeared in a collected form before either. This graphic novel also contains stories starring the First, Fourth and Fifth Doctors from Doctor Who Yearbooks from the mid nineties so many will have never seen them before. In a strange way, the final page of this book is the best of all. It states that #29 in this superb series will include not only stories featuring the First, Third, Fourth and Fifth Doctors but the final Seventh Doctor tale to appear in DWM - the one in which Ace died and "changed the Doctor Who comic strip forever"!I would expect #30 to begin featuring the Thirteenth and current Doctor whose stories are now appearing in comic strip form in DWM - this series has been running for at least 15 years and cannot be too highly recommended.

Excellent final book in the Range's "Capaldi" Era.
Great story and art in the main story - a finale to the final storyline for the Pannini's 12th Doctor Era. The older that follow this are more of a mixed bag but enjoyable enough.Includes a "Commentary" on creation of the stories in the book which is excellent as always.Good book.
