Great, especially for the price
Great camera, and quite the upgrade from the D80 that I had been using since 2007. Not as physically smaller as i had expected from reading some reviews, but I think that is a positive, because it is still easy to handle. The biggest differences from the older Nikon DSLRs are the weight and the high ISO performance. This camera is super light, and with a small/light lens, is very easy to carry around. The high ISO performance is amazing. I used to hesitate to use anything over ISO 800 because of the distracting noise, but with this camera I don't even think about it.I do with that it had the dedicated dedicated buttons of the D80, but you have to step up to the D7xxx series for that. That being said, the touch screen is fast and responsive, and once you get used to it, all relevant functions are within easy reach. For those concerned about purchasing this refurbished camera through Beech Camera or Cameta Camera, have no fear. Both are solid, reputable sellers and the camera is not gray market. If you are in the market for a DSLR that has more bells and whistles than the D3xxx series but don't want to pay the big bucks for the D7xxx models, the D5500 hits the sweet spot. Especially for the refurbished price!

Great little camera, refurb is a great deal!
I purchased this camera refurbished, it came in EXCELLENT condition, if I didn't -know- for sure that it was refurbished, I'd have guessed it was brand new.The camera shoots beautiful stills. I am really enjoying it, especially the touch screen.Included with my camera (refurb) I got:Instruction ManualWarranty CardBattery Charger and (1) BatteryAV cable for video playback18-55mm kit lensNikon D5500And a neck Strap. All in all this was a very good deal, the image quality I am getting is a good bit sharper than my Rebel t3i and I feel I got a better deal. I purchased both cameras for nearly the same price.

it looks brand new and works great!
Purchased this camera as an introduction into the fabulous world of photography. Not having a lot of experience I wanted something that wasn't too expensive but had enough features to help me learn all about aperture, shutter speed, white balance, lighting, exposure, etc. And this one really seems to fit exactly what I need at this time. And the only way I knew this was a refurbished camera is because it came in a generic box. Other than that, it looks brand new and works great!

Not a bad camera at all
Not a bad camera at all. Faster than my D5100 or D5200. The JPEGS are usable! I like the 24mpx sensor and I think it should be the minimum density for this sensor size. Boy was I excited coming from a 16 mpx Pentax. The pull out screen is a must on my list.I really want to move to mirror less. But as an sellers maintenance upgrade it will do until I get the cash to sell out of the DSLR system. I can't wait for no more mirror slapping causing sound and vibration.

I do not recommend a refurbished anything from Nikon
I bought this camera after being torn between similar Nikon and Canon models. I put my faith in my first DSLR camera in Nikon. I chose the D5500 model. I also chose the refurbished option. Not only does the camera not power up, they sent the wrong cords. There is no way in hell anyone tested this camera. The lens mirror had a very greasy fingerprint, hairs and dust particles. The main reason I chose this particular model and option was because they got it out to my house in 2 days. I have a big sports event tomorrow and now I have nothing to shoot photos with. Needless to say, I do not recommend a refurbished anything from Nikon.. It's obvious that their quality control on refurbished cameras is lacking.Very disappointing.. 🙁

Only 90 Day Warranty
It looks fine - doesn't look like a used product and it seems work fine; However, the item's description of "FULL WARRANTY" is only 90 days on the camera and the lens which is considerably less than the 1 year standard warranty for a new camera and lens. There is a warranty card included with both the body and the lens clearly stating the warranty is 90 days. I feel like the advertising is deceptive - why state words such as FULL WARRANTY and MINIMUM 90 DAY WARRANTY? Why not just clearly state product only comes with a 90 day warranty? Also, there is no manual included - must download and print the manual if you want to keep it with you at all times. A pocket manual would have been nice and work a few more bucks since this is a pretty sophisticated device and I am not sure I want to have to fire up my computer or go online just to figure out a camera setting when I am taking pictures out in the back forty......

Best Camera in this Price Range
This is an awesome camera for the price. I've used Canon Rebel and Panasonic GH cameras in the same price range. I've also used the Nikon D3000 series. I think the D5500 is the perfect mix of price and value. The touch screen is great. The stock lens is really pretty darn good. I like the price point of the 35mm prime. This camera is pretty user-friendly. I was up and running with 60% of the features in the just a few minutes.I do think the viewfinder is lacking. Pretty small. That would probably be my one main issue with the camera. I mostly shoot video, so this doesn't bother me as much as it would someone who shoots more photography with it. I would also love to see a software update that allows for grid view on the viewfinder. That would be so helpful. If someone was looking to spend $600 to $800 on a camera, I would send them to this product.

WISH I BOUGHT TWO OF THESE..
Best entry level DSLR camera you can buy in my opinion, and at a great price! I have had no issues since purchasing my refurbished Nikon D5500 and I'm looking to buy a second one, very soon, for my girlfriend. She's a regular point and shoot type person, but now I can't keep her away. It's a constant sharing battle, taking turns with it at the moment. My recommendation, if you have a significant other, buy two of these, one for you and one for her. Then have her buy the lenses. That's a fair deal, right?? LOL
