Proline Amazon Universal Bevel Protractor w/Magnifier 360 Degree Blades Fine Adjustment

Well here is the pathetic thing. Our country can't build a protractor for maybe double the price of this one? I would buy it, but it doesn't exist! So here is my tool review. I ordered this two days ago and it arrived this afternoon. I own a vintage Starrett protractor and thought I would use this one when setting up my table saw and such. Well this came with a nice protective case and looks pretty darn nice to me. It has a thin coat of protective oil on it , looks and smells like cosmoline. After giving it a good clean up and light stoning to break the very mild burrs, I gave it a light coat of instrument oil and checked it against my starrett. Appears to be right on the money! The Chinese are starting to get there quality together. I really don't know how much longer we will be able to get very inexpensive tools from china. My father always talked despairingly of Japanese tools, now try to buy a mitutoyo protractor. Need a protractor? Don't have several hundred bucks for a starrett? I say buy this one.

The thumbscrews are terrible, do not rotate smoothly. They feel like threads are worn and damaged internally. All the pieces fit together pretty sloppy. Some pieces will not tighten into place at all. I have very low confidence in the accuracy of this instrument, and it is difficult to use.

I'm in the field of optics as a diamond turning machinist. Who works with-in microns and nano meters for tolerance's. I also own the $300 Mitutoyo version of this tool. I put it to the angular test and it was just as good as the as the expensive Mitutoyo version. I'm using this tool to set angles perpendicular to the spindle machine face. I have also used this tool as a square and also a guide to my Sin vices to spot check angles. Needless to say I would purchase this tool 100 times over before I would another Mitutoyo! I plan on buying one for all the machinist in my department for next Christmas, so they will stop borrowing mine!!!

It's not in the same class as Mitutoyo or Starrett, but at less than 1/5th the price it's a great value. Mine read about 5' off, which is within the stated accuracy. There are some fine burrs that I'll need to stone off. For very occasional use this is just what I needed.

I thought you couldn't beat it for the price, but I am sad that I did not look at the picture more closely before ordering. This cheaper version of the Mitutoyo and even a couple of this other brands does not have the fine adjustment knob. I have come to love that fine adjustment knob on the ones that I use currently and this is the only one that doesn't have it.My other issues are 1) The cam lock to hold the blades doesn't hold them very tight and 2) The whole tool just seems very loose and doesn't fit well together.I will be upgrading very soon. This one wont be in my toolbox for very long.

On dissciption it says fine adjustment but it doesn’t have one. It’s nice though.

It was hard to turn the adjustment wheel had to oil it before using it. Really lightweight.

works as intended, the more expensive model may have a better quality, but this works as intended
