Easy fix
My Florida Heat Pump (now owned by Bosch) compressor was failing to start when the system commanded it to start. It would hum for about 5 seconds and then time out. This cycle would repeat over and over, sometimes starting and sometimes the system seemed to quit trying (after about ten minutes and 50 or so failed starts of the compressor). Anyway, this piggy back capacitor is simply added in parallel to the existing capacitor and it works like a champ. Two things to note: (1) capacitors can zap you even when you've removed the 220Vac at the breaker...you must discharge the existing capacitor or you'll become the discharge path and that's gonna hurt... and (2) it's possible you just need to replace your existing capacitor and this boost is unnecessary. If your compressor is older and a capacitor swap didn't fix your problem, this is the easy button you were hoping for. As for how long this bandaid fix will last, I dunno, but, at the price of a new compressor, this thing will pay for itself in about a month or two.

WOW! It works!
Seriously, it was harder to remove the screws and cover to the capacitor area than it was to install the device. Once installed, the compressor fired right back up without the loud noise! So far, so good and this was so worth it. I’ll update if things change but I am very happy that it worked and was so easy. DO NOT PAY A TECH TO DO THIS! It is literally a 5 minute job.

Its true! This thing provides the necessary kick for older compressors!
Its true! This thing provides the necessary kick for older compressors! I'm more than pleased with the AMI PARTS SPP6 Hard Start Capacitor Replacement! I was experiencing issues with my air conditioner unit, particularly during hot summer days when it would struggle to start. After installing the SPP6, I've noticed a HUGE difference. The installation process was straightforward, and the instructions provided were clear and concise. The quality of the capacitor is top-notch, and I can already feel the increased compressor torque - it's like a whole new unit! I think the SPP6 has improved the performance of my air conditioner and possibly made it more energy-efficient.

Absolute must have if your compressor is weak And has trouble starting against head pressure that has not equalized in the system

hard start capacitor
takes just a few minutes to install, instructions a breeze, unit runs immediately on a central air unit the service folks told me had a locked up compressor, and while running runs quieter, and draws half the current it was drawing before hand. I added a new run capacitor also at same time. Installs so easy a child could do it, no complaints, what so ever from here. saved me 1,600.00

Its works - for now
Easy to install if your somewhat familiar with home AC units. However, this unit, and many others listed are cheap knockoffs from China. Just read the label and see they can't even spell the word AND correctly. I don't expect this to last that long, maybe a few months, we will see.

This is a must have for older AC’s
This was very easy to install and is a must have for older ac’s. I installed this 2 different ac units that were having a hard time starting up. Both units have been working great with no problems after I installed new run capacitors and these hard start kits. Best money spent to have these ac units running again. One of the owners had an ac tech look at the unit and he said the unit was low on Freon and need to be replaced. I went there put in a new run capacitor and this hard start kit. The owner hasn’t had a problem since. And that was in the middle of a heat wave. So if you have an older ac unit this could be the answer you have been waiting for. Before purchasing a new ac unit at the least try a new run capacitor and this hard start kit. It could be the answer that you have been looking for. Also it’s a lot cheaper to give a shot at than a new ac unit.

Super easy fix to an AC problem
Just bought the house and a few months later the air conditioner quit working (July in Florida). The compressor would hum for a few seconds and the fan would operate but no cooling. Thought I was going to be out multiple thousands of dollars but fortunately came across a YouTube video that suggested a similar product. I decided to risk all of $15 to avoid $3,000 and IT WORKED!This will not solve every AC problem, but if you have similar symptoms it is worth a shot.
