Nice little device to save time while travelling
My new job has me travelling more than I'd like, and it is always a hassle to connect multiple devices to the hotel network or client wi-fi and have to keep authenticating when they expire every day. And really annoying when the networks I'm connecting to go down, and my devices can't communicate to each other to transfer files. This solves all of those problems. I connect my phones and Roku stick and laptop and tablet to this router, and then when I change networks, I only have to update this router to connect to the new network and everything else just works. And even without an external network, I can access files, music and videos from any of the devices. The one thing I had a problem with is the PITA networks that are open and then require a sign up page to finish the network connection. It isn't in the manual they send with the device, but if you poke around their website enough (hard to do when you don't have internet connection in the first place), you find instructions like below, which have worked on all of the networks I've tried it on.=========================================================How to access the hotel Wi-Fi (which has a login or authentication page)?Get the Wi-Fi user name and password of your room from hotelConnect your phone with TripMate, login its web end 10.10.10.254Go to setting -> internet -> wireless access -> scan -> select your hotel's Wi-Fi name (SSID), leave the password empty, save.Open another page on your phone browser and you will see the hotel restrict page popping up. Now login with the username & password you asked from hotel.Since your Tripmate's MAC address has been registered in hotel Wi-Fi system, other devices of you could access the network bridged by TripMate."

Worked as advertised, and more
Worked like a charm, I have to give it 5 stars even though I have two caveats. The two things missing are:(1) It is missing 5 GHz band support for the Wifi. Transfers are slow.(2) Web interface for browsing pictures does not work well with any of my mobile devices (Safari or Chrome on the iphone).I used every other feature and they worked well. Even used Samba to set up a Windows share, and it worked perfectly with a 256GB USB stick. I couldn't be happier with the functionalilty. If I had a wish-list for further improvement it would be: (1) Add 5 GHz wifi, (2) Make both USB slots data-capable, and (3) Accomodate other protocols, like FTP and NFS (which is trivial since its running Linux internally). I could even have used three USB slots but hey, we can't always have everything :-)-Matt

Great for Captive Portals like Hotels!
This little unit works great. I have to admit I was a little skeptical but I love electronics and decided to give it a try. My purchase was for use behind a captive portal at hotels. I am a road warrior and travel probably 40 weeks out of the year. This unit works great for the captive portals. I ordered and had it delivered to the hotel. Setup took less than 4 minutes probably less but as I said I love gadgets. If you want the unit to bring up the captive portal page make sure once your connected to browse to a http page and not a https page. Well it seemed to work better in my case. I was using the original shipped firmware, this may be alleviated once I update it to the current version.I have all my devices hooked to my private net at the hotel, allowing them to communicate freely. I am also using the same SSID as home so my devices easily connect and no matter what device I travel with its connection is already setup.I did take off a star as the ethernet port is WAN only and cannot function as a LAN port. Also the USB connection type doesn't support Mac partition format types. I doubt I would use the USB connection, so I did not factor that into my star rating. All in all a very sweet little unit. I did purchase 2 of these units. The price is right too.OH if you need something to get your XBOX connected on captive portals this is the ticket.

Handy Little Item for the Hotel Traveller
First, I want to just be clear why I purchased the Tripmate Elite Wireless Router. I am a consultant who works on the road most weeks, meaning I live out of a hotel room five days per week. Many hotels limit the number of items you can have on their WiFi to one unless you pay extra. I have a laptop, phone, and tablet which all need wireless access. I use them all for work and pleasure. This router gives me WiFi access to all three, at once if necessary.I also bring a Chromecast or an Amazon Firestick that I plug into the HDMI slot on the hotel TV and connect to the router. The Chromecast will not connect to the hotel internet without a router. This fits the bill. I can watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc on the hotel television and still use my laptop, phone, and tablet on the same connection. The instructions are a little vague but can be overcome with some close reading and experimenting. I suggest setting up all of your components at home and then your items should connect to the router pretty easily when on the road. Plug the hotel ethernet into it, plug it in, and wait for it to boot up. Once it does, connect to the WiFi with your phone or laptop, and it will take you to the hotel internet webpage. Agree to their terms and you are on your way.It has a bunch of other features (eg. you can use it as a charger and it has memory) that I have not had a need for. It works pretty seamlessly for my need as a router. One minor issue is that it does not seem to play well with my Netflix app on my iphone when I use the Chromecast. I have to disconnect from the router, open the Netflix app, reconnect to the router, and then use Netflix. If I do not disconnect from the router first, the app crashes right away.I have attached a picture of it plugged in with the TV remote in front to give you a feel for its size. The cord plugged in is from my laptop. The Hootoo plugs directly into the outlet (the prongs flip out of the unit and then back in for storage) and the cord going into it is the hotel ethernet.
