Building a Better World in Your Backyard: Instead of Being Angry at Bad Guys

Do you want to make a difference without sacrificing comfort?
Then this book is for you! Its aim is to help you make an environmental impact—not by being a better and louder complainer, but in realistic practical ways and without sacrificing personal comfort. The authors define this as "luxuriant environmentalism." That in itself ought to grab your attention, because most people claiming to try to save the planet tell us we need to make personal sacrifices to do that saving. The ideas in this book, however, offer less wasteful but comfortable lifestyle changes that will also save you money.Practical, encouraging, and well-written. I can't help but repeat what other reviewers have already said, highly recommended.

So happy about this I want to cry; there is hope.
LTDR; Great book, I'll be sending them out as stocking suffers. This book is a rendering of several decades of direct work and some of the best down to earth practical words I have been able to find.Like good poetry the paragraphs will contain more if one takes the time to think about them.Like a great wine the ideas are best opened with intention rather than swilling.Like a starving person lost in the woods i binged through my first reading. I'm now satiated enough that I am going back and paying much more attention to the details. I expect to be reading it and rereading it for years to come."Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die."This book is like drinking the antidote. In the right light, most of our problems are simply solvable. There is hope.

Great book!
Paul Wheaton’s lab has put out some of the most real information on permaculture there is. His team at Wheaton labs have explored every topic in this book with scientific persistence that makes this information vital to permaculture; especially what is going on during these times.

How to still live a good life and reduce your impact
I loved the book. I have listened to Paul Wheaton on his podcast for several years. He is constantly experimenting with new and old technology and proving out the best of the best. He is a no-BS kind of guy. He provides workable ideas and solutions to live a more luxuriant life without giving up the niceties in life and still reduce you impact on the planet.

Highly recommend!
I’ve just started reading this and skimmed through some of the chapters but I’m already excited about reading this. It looks to be full of creative ideas for living a more sustainable and better quality life. So far this book is a treasure. I’m ordering more to pass out to family and friends.

Excellent overview of permaculture philosophy
This author has an agenda, but unlike most agendas this one is well thought out and practical. Want to improve the world? Grow something. Rather than hyperventilating about the state of the world, find things to do that will actually make a difference over time.I would have liked a few more details, but this book is a bird's eye view of an enormous subject. A great guide to further research.

Real, practical, solutions to save the world
Can't afford that electric car but still want to make a difference? This is the book for you!Building a Better World in your Back Yard is packed full of solutions that save money while saving the world. Solutions like how to grow a greener lawn with less effort and cut down on the cost of mower gass and store-bought additives. Or like how to drastically lower your heating bill, while keeping yourself warm without having to wear seventeen sweaters all at the same time.Rather than wasting paper moaning about the problems of the world, Wheaton and Klassen-Koop quickly jump into the solutions. Besides, if you're going to buy a book like this, you already know there's something wrong that needs fix'n. The writing style is friendly and accessible. The illustrations add a wonderful touch. It doesn't matter if you're dwelling in a cement cube seven stories above the city or living in a spacious homestead, this book has something for everyone.(this review is for both the physical book and the e-book as I bought both)
