Shonen Themes in an Acting Package
This Manga is worth the read. From the first chapter, it has a sincere appreciation for the creative arts, and it only gets better from there. Kei Yonagi is a fantastic protagonist to follow on her journey through the world of acting as she learns more about the craft and herself. She's quirky, down to earth, and not afraid to do things her way, despite potential drawbacks. Act-Age is an exploration of the human psyche and what we owe each other but also what we owe ourselves. All of this is wrapped in a package that, despite a lack of punching or shirtless muscley men, is as Shonen as it gets when it comes to themes. Don't judge a book by its cover, because this series has an unbridled sense of optimism, passes the torch to the next generation, appreciates a pure heart, teaches strength through power, as well as empathy. All of these things can be found in spades. Empathy especially is an area Act-Age excels in and tackles the topic as well any in this type of story. So whether you're a classic Shonen fan, or into the theatrical arts, I think this series has something for you. It'll gut you emotionally at times in the way only the best stories can. This first Volume is merely the initial step, and while I believe it's great from the getgo, it only gets better. And I hope you enjoy it if you do!

The Creation Itself Is Top Tier
A story about a girl trying to get into the acting industry in Japan. She has a fairly difficult life, but she never once lets it stop her from achieving her dreams nor from taking care of her twin siblings that matter to her greatly. She makes a good deal of friends along the way and has positive growth and influences the growth of those around her. The story is amazing on its own. The art is incredibly high quality and from such a young and impressive artist for the industry. Getting praise from even veterans of the manga world.Yes, the author has been proven to be a person that has conducted himself poorly in life, but that doesn't change the quality of the creation. Act-Age deserves praise for the creation itself. Separate the creation from the creator, always. It's just a pity we will never see a conclusion to this fantastic story nor will we ever get an anime adaption that could have gone down as one of the greats.

A deep dive into a young girl's acting career
This is one of the freshest and unique shonen to have come out in such a long time. About the journey of Kei Yonagi trying to make it in the acting business. There is such a tremendous display of raw emotions and actions that happen almost every panel. I highly recommend this to anybody as I am sure it will be a breath of fresh air no matter what kind of manga you are into.

Well, it's a good story.
I have already read this manga online before though stopped midway, and this was before the whole incident with the author happened. I've been meaning to reread the series but knowing what the author did left me disgusted. It's a bit hard to separate the author and the work in my mind but I believe that is still possible. The author committed indecent acts on two junior high schoolers which you can probably read on about. But there is also the artist, editors, and translator who worked together on this series who are innocent and put in the effort too, so casting aside the whole series would feel wrong in a way.I don't believe the sales should go directly towards the author anymore so that should be fine to grab a copy if you really want it. You can also appreciate the wonderful art from the artist, really the cover is stunning it's the reason I gave in to temptation. And with that I will talk about the actual series. One of my favorite things is the protagonist. As a character she's well built, she's someone who I can't understand on a personal level and can only attempt to "get". So she's very intriguing. And the series tries to go on a journey of her learning more about herself. The problem I have is that other points of the series don't really interest me. The plot and other characters are lackluster, which is ironic because a problem she has in this story is stealing the spotlight.Buying the series is really conflicting. The author is a horrible human being, but there is also the artist who is innocent and put her effort into drawing these panels. So I say buy this series if you want to appreciate the art.

The start of a beautiful story
This is the first volume of a beautiful story that was tragically ended far too early due to the idiotic actions of its writer. That said don't discredit the work due to who wrote it. Act-Age is truly something special and this first volume is where the magic starts.

This is a good manga, if you can separate the author from the work this is a treat.

During that shot span of time until the directors calls "cut", we live the live of others. Sometimes we live in other nations, other time periods, even other worlds. The people who are drawn to this bizarre form of pleasure, are called actors"

Very sad the rest of the series got cancelled :(
A great first volume, though keep in mind when picking it up the rest of the volumes are out of print and impossible to buy, and that the series was cancelled due to problems with the mangaka. Other than that the story has really nice, clean art and well written characters - Its also not a traditional shonen so that’s cool. I would recommend reading the rest of the series online rather than waiting for a chance to buy the rest of the volumes, they are very hard to find as I said earlier.
